On behalf of TVLesson.com, this is Roy Pastor. I’m a BCA accredited advanced level instructor with BilliardAcademy.com.
In this clip on beginner’s billiards, I’d like to show you how to make a center ball hit and why a center ball hit so important.
I have here what’s called a Rempe Ball, Jim Rempe made it. It’s a wonderful little training tool for beginner players. You’ll have a little picture of a gentleman in the center of the ball, high left right. For beginner players, you should always concentrate on hitting center ball or just slightly above center of the cue ball, and let me show you why.
Shooting in pool is all about shooting in a straight line. Now, watch what happens. Look at the tip of my cue as I hit left of center and watch what happens as I go through in slow motion if I push through the ball. The cue ball is going to push over to the right and it’s called squirt or deflection in the game of pool. If I hit on the right side of this ball because it’s shaped as a sphere, it’s going to generally push over to the left. So think about what the affect that does when you’re trying to shoot this cue ball in a straight line to your target. If you hit left to right or center, at some point, the cue ball is going to travel down the table and shift over to the left of your target point. If you hit on the left, it’s going to shift over to the right. It’s a terrible thing to do unless you learn how to control it and adjust your target points with your line of aims. You’ll never make a straight line.
If you hit below center or to the right, what’s going to happen is that the cue ball will start to slide and move around. You don’t want that either. But anything left or right in particular, it’s going to cause you to go off of your line of aim. You should avoid it so always try to hit center or slightly above center. And that’s how you maintain control of the cue ball.
