My name is Cecilia Garcia. I live in Lansing, Michigan and I'm the owner and the Executive Chef of the Mama Bears Café in Old Town. The name of this recipe is Eye of Newt Potion, very creepy, very fun. I love this recipe because it’s really quick and simple and it’s very healthy. My daughter’s birthday is the day after Halloween, so we’re always trying to find something healthy to take into the class because the kids just go overloaded with all the sugar, and the last thing the parents want is for me to give them more.
So we are going to peel this radish and we’re going to kind of not cut our fingers off because that makes Halloween even scarier. Make these cute little eyeballs. Do you see how I’m leaving some of this peel behind to kind look like blood vessels? It really creep the kids out. I'm just going to peel it like that.
The best kind of knife to use for this project is a really sharp paring knife. So we’ve got our—I'm going to take this little corer or you can use just a knife, but I am going to use my fancy little tools because that’s why I bought them, and just kind of hollow out the center like that.
You can find a really cool tool like this called—you know, it’s just a basic corer and you can get it at most kitchen supply stores, pretty easy to find, pretty inexpensive. So I got my hollowed out eyeball and I’m just going to push that right in there. Set it inside the ice tray like that. I love the creepy squishy sound it makes when I push the pupil in there. So you kind of cut it real close without actually peeling all the way off. It looks even scarier, even more realistic.
Now, we are just going to add some water to it. You want your eyeballs completely submerged in the water. Nobody likes a dry eyeball. Now, we are going to pop this in the freezer. I would leave it in there for probably—at least four hours; overnight works best.
Let’s take our little eyeballs here and you can see how creepy they look through the ice. It’s going to be fantastic, especially once the frostiness kind of melts off the eyes a little bit. Now, we are just going to fill it up.
