So I want to show you how to make a simple leaf or garden composter out of just some simple chicken wire or some wire fencing. I bought a link for this at tag sale. It is very easy to do. Just cut out a length, figure out what the diameter of the bin you want to have. I thought one about that big would be good just as a demonstration and if you notice this stuff curls really badly. So what we are going to do is we are going to uncurl it.
What we want to do is lay it down, flat on the ground with the curled side facing down and flatten this out, throw the ball and then get four pieces of scrap wood, this is just some of what I had laying around and then you take a staple gun. This is cable staple gun that has a little cable staples but you can use flat staple as well.
And I am going to attach this to one end. And I am going to put it underneath and I will show you will understand why I did that in a little bit here. So are going to put this that so the top of this stake is just above the wire here. So next, we throw the ball.
Now, we are going to attach the other end to this so, you might want to wear gloves and this could be kind of sharp. So when you want to, have this form a big loop like this. And then you curl in here. Okay now, you have a hoop with the stake. So now, you are figure out where you want to put this thing and you take your one stake that you have here and you drive it into the ground. So we throw the ball. This kind of bin is good for yard waste or garden waste, I would not use it for any cooked food especially if you have like raccoons or bears around or something. This is just kind of a neat, slow compost method. It is going to be a season at least for all the stuff that you are going to put in here to breakdown.
So what you do now is you have got this stake in here, you kind of form it into a simple circle and just put some stakes, these bugs are bad. Put some more stakes in on outside and it does not have to be perfect. This is garden fork. The world has to stop. Okay so, now you have got the four stacks here and you just get out your staple gun. Lean down in here and put a couple of staples in.
And there you go, you have got yourself a instant leaf composter. Very simple design, if you can do it, I can do it. I mean if I can do it, you can certain do it. So we can take all our mulched leaves that we run through mulching lawnmower. You can either spread those in your beds but if you want to compost it even more and get some really nice leaf mold and you could take this put it on your garden beds or flower beds and that is fine. But if you want to make it into like neat leaf composter or what I call leaf mold, we are going to compost it in an open wire bin like this for a season and I will get this great black leaf mold that is great for garden soil.
Stop for a minute, throw the ball. So here it goes, again, a very simple system. I have seen where people take larger sticks and run them through the holes here kind of creating little air pockets. I do not know if that is completely necessary. I have also seen it where people make these things where I they can turn them over so they basically are kind of aerating the thing. It is a little more advance than we need to be here but this is perfect just to let these leaves breakdown, garden waste stuff; you could mix this with grass clippings, other stuff. It is just neat simple way. Put it behind the garage and then make some compost.
All right. Why do you not come to the greenhouse, tell us what you think. Send us some pictures. Do you have a compost bin that you built? I would like to see it. All right, greenhouse, green-house.tv and I will continue throwing the ball. I will see you later. All right?
