Female: Welcome to the Upholstery Studio, every week we are going to show you useful
and interesting projects that are fun and easy to make and look beautiful when
they’re finish. You don’t need to be a professional upholster or a bunch of
expensive tools into our projects either. If you have the stapler, a drill, scissors,
glue and a saw you have the basics necessary to do almost any of our projects. All
it takes is a few fun hours and a desire to make something beautiful with your
own hands. At the end of the show we will tell you where you can get plans or
kits for today’s project.
Male: The tools we will be using to create a corners board include a straight edge,
carpenter square, a tape measure, pens, chalk and marker, a hammer, safety
glasses in a semi black, a stapler remover, side cutter and scissors and as for the
power tools we have a saver saw, a stapler, a drill, an iron and the sawing
machine.
Female: The supplies will be using are tucks strips, foam, bonding polyester, wilt cord,
wood glue, foam adhesive, L brackets and screws, finishing nails, the pattern with
comes with the program and finally the wood for the frame.
Male: The wood will be using for the frame today is OSB, that’s Oriented Strand Board.
It’s a laminated product that’s light and won’t wear like plywood. Our first step is
our measurement; the first measurement we are going to take is the width of our
window form outside casing to out outside casing. Now our edge is 41 inches and
we’re going to add a half inch on either side so that will be for play. Our second
measurement is out height, our height is going to be 10 inches but if you have
blinds and here you may have to add to that. And our depth measurement is our
last measurement we are using four inches. There again if you had a window
treatment with drape that you have to allow for that. Let’s take our measurement
and go back to our layout.
Female: We are ready to transfer the pattern to the wood for our corners board, with the
program there are seven different shapes that you can choose for your corners.
Our basic pattern shape is a triangle and I am going to measure for our window
the 41 inches for the window plus one inch for a little play on each side and the
additional depth for our side panels on each side.
Male: What Mary Ann is measuring for is the face of the corners. Remember we had the
width of the window frame. A half inch on the inner side for play and don’t forget
the width of the side panels.
Female: For the rectangular corners I’m using my wood worker square and my yard stick
to mark the frame onto the wood. If I wanted to create a shape corners I’m going
to use the patterns that came with the program, cut them out and then what I’m
going to do is mark the full width of my phase and the halfway mark. I’m going to
line my pattern up with that center mark and the top of the wood, the edge and
I’m going to twist the shapes that on the pattern. With that halfway mark I’m
going to flip the pattern over, realign the pattern at the center, align at the top and
complete tracing the rest of the pattern for the shape of my corners.
Male: Mary Ann showed you to use the standard pattern. Let say your window is wider
that our pattern. We have a dotted line on our patterns where you can split it, what
you do then is you use it the same way, you move the center to the center line the
outside edges to the outside edge line and you will see there is a gap. You just
take your straight edge and fill it in.
Female: Perfect. We learned to how to expand our patterns and we have everything mark
and we are ready to cut the wood. You can see it’s easy to make a corners board,
it’s even easier with the kit that’s already to assemble with the free cut wood and
all the supplies included. All you do is adding your favorite to any kit and you can
