Female: Welcome to the upholstery studio, every week we are going to show you a useful
and interesting projects that are fun and easy to make and look beautiful when
they’re finish. You don’t need to be a professional upholster or have a bunch of
expensive tools into our projects either. If you have a stapler, a drill, scissors, glue
and a saw you have the basic necessary to do almost any of our projects. All it
takes is a few fun hours and the desire to make something beautiful with your
own hands. At the end of the show will tell you where you can get plans or kits
for today’s project.
To glued our frame is dry and we are ready to add the foam, not we cut a piece of
foam that is a quarter of an inch less on the top and on the bottom and we are
going to make sure that is long enough while we sinner it and just wrap it to the
back and make sure that you can reach the back and both sides and you can trim
the extra from that later but what we are going to do now is we are going to glue
this down if you don’t glue it down it might buckle. Use your spray foam and you
are going to spray a little on the foam and a little on the frame and now once
you’ve face is glued in place we are going to turn it over and we are going to pull
up on the sides and now we’ve got a little extra I’m going take our pen and will
just mark where the top is and I’m just going to cut a little short with that line is
just like this. And glue again and then I will wrap it and sinner it again, on the
polycentric is much larger than the frame and now the sole that we can take and
pull the crust and make a shape with our foam and soften the edges of the foam.
The first thing we are going to do is I’m going to look underneath and we are
going to find that quarter inch so that we can staple abandoned to that quarter inch
that we left. Okay and I’m going to pull the crust and the reason we are going to
do that so that we don’t have any buckles. Now, once we’ve stapled the two
center points we are going to trim the corners over again and the reason for that is
we are going to pull to create our shape this way. And what we are going to do is
I’m going to staple once at each side. Now what we could do, let me back over
and we’re just going to follow the line of the corners all the way along and
continue to pull a little bit in staple and staple the whole piece of décor in place.
And once we’re done stapling it in place we are going to take our scissors and
trim away the extra. With our bonded polyester stapled and place and trim we are
now ready for fabric.
Male: For our basic corners, we are using the solid yellow fabric. Now if iron that ahead
of time and here is the trick why is if you don’t iron that ahead of time and you
put it on and your iron happens to leave a mark on the fabric you get to take it all
off. So, iron it first and then we are going to start putting it on now the way I
started is I folded the fabric in half and then I took my scissors and clip the corner
on the top and then the same on the bottom and then clip the corner. Once the
fabric is laid out like that I’ve taken my corners board come to the center and put
my mark and the center of my bottom and put my mark. And now we’re ready to
put the fabric on it. What will do is start in the center and try to take your marks
on your fabrics in your corners and go back and forth until the fabric is even and
has about the right shape you want okay will that down. Now, we’re going to put
the staple right in the center now if you notice we’re stapling to the center of the
edge of the board, we are not stapling to the face anymore okay. Be real nice and
careful and take your time and get all the wrinkles out, get it nice and smooth.
This is what I can create the face of your corners board.
Okay now we’ve stapled to the corner, remember that basting staple that I told
you we put in the back now it’s time to pull it out. Bend it over and I finish this
corner right off in one staple done. For this corner board we are going to use a
welt, a decorative welt along the edge and some corners sees you a breed put it in
place and put the staple right at the end just like that. Okay, we have just finish off
the edge or wilt and what I want to do now is we’re going to put the fabric to the
inside that will cover the inside like this. Alright now, this will show you now the
texture fits along and tap that next to the wilt okay and we’re take this face fabric
you see how nice and clean that next that edge look, it’s beautiful just nice and
clean. Alright now, we are going to work down the edge and that’s easy as it is.
Now like that and staple it down, as you can see even looking down from the top
we’ve got the top covered and remember outside and turn this around to see now
your looking outside through the window at the bottom it is that’s all covered and
everything is finish. Let’s that’s over to the wall and will see that’s a look kind of
window.
Female: With our corners board completed we are ready for installation. To make
installation easier we are going to use an L bracket like this. We are going to
screw into the bottom of the old rocket into the wallboard into the stand behind
the window and then place the corners on top and we are going to use the screw to
screw up to the top of the bracket and into the bottom of the corners. Now, to find
the placement for your brackets, the window typically has a stand right behind the
corner frame. And we’re going to measure for the height so that our corners is on
the window at the right height and we’re going to go up to inches for ours. Now,
make sure that when you place L bracket that you are not outside the window,
make sure you’re inside the window frame because of the size that you’ve already
selected for the window. Mark the center and the edge of your L bracket and then
using a dry wall screw and your drill screw right through the bottom of the
bracket and into the wall. And with this bracket in place will do the same on the
other side of the window, with our brackets on place let’s slide the corners on top
of those bracket and center down the window and then will hold again place and
use a drill that has a little longer bit and the small screw and then drill right up
into the bracket and on the other side. With our basic corners let’s take a look at
some options using wallpaper wood trims and other fabrics.
