Female: For our headboards we are going to use two different sizes of decorative trim.
One will be this half inch welt cord the other will be this quarter inch welt cord.
So the fabric that wraps around that welt cord we are going to use a three inches
piece of fabric for the half inch welt and then a one in half inch piece for the
quarter inch welt. Now, when you cut your welt fabric one of the things that you
have to keep in mind is to cut it on a bias. And the reason you cut your fabric on a
bias is to that it will stretch like this and as you go around the corners of the center
of the headboard it will bold right around the corner and it won’t create any
packers for you. Now, the other thing is, is the headboards are slightly bigger than
some of the other applications you might use and you are going to need multiple
strips of fabric all the way across your fabric vault in order to create that long strip
of welt. So one of the thing you are going to do is put your fabric face to face and
you are going to saw that at the diagonal right across the fabric and make sure you
have your faces together and make sure you also backstitch. And then you are
going to go right in to this corner.
Now once you’ve sawn across the two pieces of fabric you need to trim that to
about a half in inch. And what that will do is it will allow you to open that same
up so that you don’t have a lot of bulk and when you come to that part of the welt
cord to saw it you will open it like to stitch it. Now, to begin sawing welt cord we
are going to saw this half inch. Wrap the fabric all the way around and drag right
over here. Now we are using a zipper put so that we can get very, very close. This
welt cord is very thick so there is really not any other way to get closing up to saw
to it. And continue to wrap your fabric even your edges and this flash that you’re
using here will be what you staple down when you putting this on your
headboard. And it looks like that.
Male: At this point we’ve cover the center, Mary Ann sold up this half inch welt. Okay,
what we are going to do now is we have open up the welt thing for a waste, not
fabric to bring it surrounds to the back and we’re going to start our welt right in
this bottom corner. Now, if you feel back you will see the staples from that are
already staple that next for texture we want to attach our half inch welt right in
that area so we are just bring our stapler in. And now I want to do this all the way
along the headboard here, now you will see that the half inch welt can pushes
right up against the center fabric that’s good your little tension there. We come to
the corner we want to do in the corners we want to clip that corner.
Alright the corner is great here and you can see that and when I put our half inch
welt in there take our scissors and cut just in that corner so that we can bend our
half inch welt around. Now we staple that down, go around the corner finish off to
the other side and go down. When we get to the bottom of the other side we are
going to take the fabric from the welt thing and we’re going to put to finish side in
like this, this is our finish bottom and stapled in the back. Just like that, now leave
that for now and I will show you what to do with it when we put the border on.
Alright let’s finish the top and lock this welt around.
