Hi, I’m Milo Rodriguez, Master Mixologist. We’re here in New York City today. I’m about to make a Dewar Smash. Dewar’s white label is the number one brand that Scotch Whiskey sold in the US.
In order to make the Dewar Smash, we first begin with the Highball Glass or a Collins Glass. We’re going to add about three to four sprigs of fresh mints preferable to take of the leaves from the actual stalks. With the stalks, tend to get bitterness to the drink, which we don’t need, all the oil and all the flavor of the mint actually in the leaves itself. Together with the mint, we’re going to add about three quarters to one pot of lemon juice preferably freshest squeeze I’m using a hand squeeze ahead just to emphasize that fresh nature needed in this cocktail. It's always better to use fresh ingredients and just to balance out that lemon juice, we’re going to add a simple syrup which is essentially very easy to make, just equal parts water and sugar together. You can mix this at home very, very easily. If you don’t wish to make this, you can use two spoons of regular granulated or pass the sugar and either one is absolutely fine. We’re going to add one part of simple syrup. So now, we’re going to model the fresh mints together with the lemon and the sugar and it's important just to press them and not to actually shred the mints. So that the actual mints stays fresh and it doesn’t become too brittle in the glass.
Importantly now, we’re going to add two parts of Dewar’s white label to the mix. Dewar Scotch Whiskey is one of the most awarded whiskeys in the world. You can see how that rich, warm smoky flavor of this Dewar Scotch actually emphasize and brings out the flavor, the mint and the lemon. Then add lots of ice now, really important to add lots of ice in a cocktail. We’re going to stir all those ingredients through just with the regular long spoon, a little bit more ice there jus to keep the drink nice and cold and just of splash of sparkling water or Club Soda to the top that just gives it some fist, some liveliness to the drink. Now the quick stir and to finish, really importantly, just to emphasize the aroma, a sprig of fresh mint, which I’m just going to hit and palmed my hand to wake up the oils. And there we have it, the Dewar Smash. Cheers.
