Hi! I’m Sandy with A Floral. And today I’ll talked about some door decorations. Do you have one of those doors that only has a little space between the door and the screen door or the storm door, sometimes that’s a problem for decoration.
So what we’re going to do is take this piece of ivy garland and make it into a wreath, this way you don’t have any dimension really and it’ll fit in between those thin doors, so what I did was just take it around and then we’ll wire it together with a piece of 24 gauge wire, and we’ll glue our flowers right on to this, in this way you don’t have a frame, it’s nice and thin, and it’ll fit between any doors.
I thought it would look nice to have some tails because of the shape of your door, round isn’t always necessary; it’s nice sometimes to have something oblong.
I have this beautiful Ranunculus and some hydrangea, I found this cute butterfly, I thought it would look nice on our door, and then I have a stem of popper berries in purple and green. So this will be a colorful summer door decoration, and I’m just going to pull the heads off the Ranunculus so that they’ll be able to be glued on easily.
It’s colorful; we have reds, and yellows, and oranges, purples and pinks, very nice for summer time. Over here I have the glue pack, which is nice; you can just deep in and stick them on.
Remember when you’re working with something wrong, you like to work with three’s, it’ll make your round or oblong wreath into a square by using four’s. So what we do is hang on to the head of the flower, dip it into the glue and stick it onto the wreath, and I do one color at a time so that I can see that it is distributed equally.
Be careful with the hot glue, it is 380 degrees, and you don’t want to get that on your fingers. I have a little secret—if you have glue strings when you’re all done with your project, just take your blow dryer. Lay your project a piece of newspaper and wave that hair dryer over top, it will melt all those glue strings right down into your project, and you don’t have that mess, and you don’t have to spend hours picking them off.
Look how pretty this is looking already, just some Ranunculus and mixed colors, glued on, we’ll put some down here on our tails, some smaller ones since this is not the focal point of our design and I’m even going to use to buds. My theory is you pay for all the flowers; you should use all the flowers.
Now I have a stem of hydrangea, and I’m going to cut that apart into smaller pieces, so now our one big stem of hydrangea is several small pieces, and we’ll glue those in between just for a different texture. See how nice this glue pack is, you can work with just one hand. It leaves your other hand free for other projects, so the Ranunculus went on first, then we’re going to add bits of hydrangea, I thought we’d stick this butterfly in for a little fun and the same thing a little glue, and slide him in there, look how pretty is that looking already.
Let’s just couple more things because I have these berries. And of course you can add as much or as little as you like. I love color and you know, we are always talking about curved appeal for our house, and you’re making your gardens beautiful.
This is a wonderful way to welcome the public into your home and as people are driving by, they’ll take notice of this, so make sure that you have something that will show up on your door, if your door is white don’t put white flowers on there because that won’t show up. Make sure that you put in something colorful.
The door decoration isn’t necessarily for you but for those people looking at your house. And here, we are adding just a couple berries here and there and in no time at all we have a beautiful door wreath, ready to hang nice and thin in between your screen door and your regular door.
Have a great day.
