Hi, this is Daniel Messias from adobenicnacs. In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to make this fire style picture in Photoshop, but it looks more like something that an artist would paint on canvass as opposed to something created digitally in Photoshop.
So what we’re going to do is first of all, I’m going to close this and we’re going to open up a new document by holding CTRL-N. Now, the size of this document could be anything you like. But for this, I’ve chosen to do the same size as my wallpaper as I want this to be a wallpaper, which is 1440 pixels width and 900 pixels for the height. So the resolution, 72 pixels per inch and a color mode of RGB 8 bit. And you want your background contents to be white.
Once this is all done, you can press OK. And the first thing we’re going to do is we’re going to do some clouds but make sure your foreground color is set to black and your background color is set to white. We’re going to go to filter, render, clouds. Now, we want to get that sort of style and pattern sort of thing than the original had. So we’re going to go to filter, distort, polar coordinates, make sure it’s set to ‘polar to rectangular’ and we’re going to press OK. And now, we’ve got that sort of patterned style that the original had.
So now, we got to color. What we’re going to do here is we’re going to open up our curves panel. Press CTRL key, keep it held down, and then press N. Up comes our curves panel. So then, what we’re going to do is we’re going to edit the green value, bring it down to about here. We’ve got a nice purple color, but we don’t want a purple color. We want a red color. Obviously, if you want a purple color, this is fine. So we’re going after our blue and we’re going to drag it down here. And this is a very good source of pre-set to—now, if you even want to color something fiery, the green value in this sort of position and the blue value there. It always provides a very good fiery sort of color for me. So then, we’re going to press OK and it’s colored.
And then just to bring out some of the contrast in it, we’re going to adjust the levels. So we’re going to hold CTRL-L. This opens up our levels panel. We’re going to bring out some of the shadows by dragging the black slider in, and bringing out some of the highlights by bringing the white slider in. This adds some contrast.
Okay, there we go! We’re finished! This is a very quick tutorial and once you know this technique, it can be done really, really quickly.
