On behalf of TVLesson.com, this is Roy Pastor. I’m a BCA accredited advanced level instructor with BilliardAcademy.com.
In this clip on advanced billiards, I’d like to show you what’s called the Carom Shot or in this particular case, a Frozen Kiss Shot.
Take a look at these two balls, I have set up the 8 and the 5 ball. Now, I could be shooting this 8 ball to win the game. My opponent has it solid right behind it and my cue ball can actually be way down here. Now, I’m not going to be able to get the cue ball on the side to strike my 8 ball in this location where I need to strike it into this pocket, but I do have an advantage if these two balls are frozen, and that just means they’re touching each other. When these two balls are touching each other and I hit this 8 ball anywhere, it’s going to separate at 90 degrees. Now, let’s take a look at what that means.
This is my 90-degree angle. If I draw a line right square in the middle of those two balls, my 8 ball is going to travel right along this line. So if I hit this 8 ball anywhere on the right side, it’s going to separate it 90 degrees, the 5 ball will go forward and the 8 ball go 90 degrees that way and it will fall right in the pocket. So let’s try it.
I’m going to hit the 8 ball right on the right side, and there you go. That’s how you make a great frozen little kiss shot. Now, let me show you a different application to this shop that you might have a little fun with. You can use this to maybe win a little bet. Now, what I am doing is I am freezing these two balls down at the end of the table. I’m setting it at a slight angle so that the 8 ball is going to travel along this line towards this pocket. You can make a friendly wager with your opponent asking them to shoot down from the other end of the table and make the 8 ball in that pocket. Most players will try to cut it. But take a look at what I’m going to do. I’m going to hit the rail first and sink the 8 ball. You used the tangent line to go right in there. That’s how you make a frozen kiss shot in a game of pool.
