The name of this daiquiri, the Floridita #3, also known as Hemmingway’s Daiquiri comes from the hotel that Hemmingway was staying in Cuba, the Floridita Hotel. He adjusted or created one of his own daiquiris and as they had a number of daiquiris already on their menu, this is their third so it is known here as the Hemmingway’s Daiquiri or the Floridita #3.
I will start with ice in one shaker and your ingredients in the second, so you are not melting the ice and wetting down your beverage prematurely. We are going to have about three quarters of an ounce of fresh lime juice, an ounce and a half of fresh grapefruit juice, an ounce and a half of white rum, a Maraschino liqueur about half an ounce, not too much. You don’t want to oversweet it.
This one ideally can be served up or neat since it’s a daiquiri, but it’s on our summer menu, so we serve it as cold as possible. We’re then going to pour it over fresh ice in a Collins glass. And that is Hemmingway’s Daiquiri, also know as the Floridita #3.
