Welcome to Common Man Cocktails. I'm your host Derrick Schommer and we’re going to continue our Halloween recipes for the week and this time we’re going to do something known as Maggots. I've tested some of these recipes, not all of them. This is one I didn’t test. There was a couple that ended up getting kicked out because they just didn’t have the effect I was looking for. This one I don’t know. It might just could be a complete failure but we’ll learn something.
So the deal with maggots is we’re going to put all these ingredients together but the key here is the baileys and because everybody likes the way cream tends to curdle in some of this bloody brain, brain hemorrhage any of those types of drinks where you get to weird curdling. The concept being that is going to curdle and the curdle is going to rise at the top and it's going to take a look like little white maggots. Yeah, I know. I don’t know why do I don’t want to drink it but we’re going to do it, why? Because it got baileys, vodka, peach schnapps and kahlua. I think the peach schnapps and baileys are really going to do it because they seemed to really go good together. That’s how you usually make a brain hemorrhage.
So we’re going to just throw in all the other half ounce and everything and the trick is we’re not going to shake it. We’re not going to be aggressive with this because you're going to lose the effect. So we’re going to give it one shake, then we’re going to pour it into a glass that we've got here which we use this already or depending on the order of the shows, first time around. You see, it's the coolest tall glass. Now you're supposed to put this in a rocks glass. This is probably about the size of a rocks glass but maybe a little bigger. You don’t think that’s bigger than you think of it. It depends on the rocks glasses. Some of them are tiny, like the rocks glass you got at the Chinese food restaurant which is like this little thing for whiskey sour or whatever it was.
Wash this apple, there we go. We’re going to build it in here and then shake it once thrown in there, let's do it. Oh! And check it out we just got this. This came in the mail the other day and I did a taste. I got that tasting note is done. Jennifer drank this straight. This is Bison Grass Vodka. It's a Polish vodka. She drank it straight and she liked it. She actually said “I like this”. It's a little sweet, little sweet nuance to it. It's got an aroma to it that I can't really pick out, it must be grass. But it's really vodka. It's a Zubrowka I think it is or something like that. It's mean. It's supposed to be authentic. I haven’t done in a lot of research but it does have a piece of grass inside if you could see that and that’s not what turns it green and I guess that’s part of the distillate.
But the grass is there for effect. So whatever, let's get this ice in here first. Since you’ve typically be pouring it over ice in the rocks glass, we’ll put the ice in there first. If they have a person dedicated just putting a sliver of grass it probably do. Have just one person they go. Here’s Mc-Mail and machine that puts grass in order. That would be weird. We’ve seen odder things inside of a bottle especially tequila, worms it's all marketing. There's really no need or whatever, we’re going to do a half ounce of peach schnapps and we’re going to need this. So if you got peach schnapps and you got Madori and Bailey it should be ready for our Saturday episode because we've decided to go with Ghost buster cocktail so get those ready.
And a half ounce of kahlua, now we probably don’t have a half ounce in here, we've got about an eight of an ounce because we used it on a prior show. So burn one kahlua, open another because that’s just how we roll and most people roll I guess. Oh, no and you know what it's weird and you might have this at home too as if you make, you might have like a bunch of alcohol perhaps not as much as some people might get because you know pay for it all. But if you have a lot usually there are one or two ingredients that you use the most.
X-rated for our buddy Dawn who just, has always alcohol but you don’t really drinks are X-rated. Here we go, now technically it's done. It already looks weird. I don’t know, I think it's going to be tasty regardless. I just don’t think it's like Maggots. Now it might be a good thing, so we shake it once and then we’re going to see if we can take the top off and with all those two shakes there. Pour that in here. Now it looks like Baileys might just be too many shakes. There's a little light dots in there but so if you're going to try this drink try different amounts of shakes and as you could see it doesn’t necessarily fit all the way in here but when you roll it around you could start to see some of the white things floating on the top.
So maybe that’s what you do, you garnish it by rolling it down the edges to make it look just wrong. So there you go, that would be Maggots, the Maggots cocktail. It probably sounds a little better. It smells like peach schnapps and Baileys and there are a little floaters in there, it tastes like a coffee drink. You’ve got a lot of coffee meets peach schnapps. There is some sell nuances if you’ve taste, if you have this or your can get bites of grass I don’t know where you can get it, it literally just arrive the other day. So I haven’t done a lot of research on it yet but if you could find this I think it's probably new. It's got some good taste to it. Does it make a huge difference in this specific drink? No probably not but it's cool an eye cool.
And I just like try new brands. There you go give that a try, experiment with the shakes tell me what you could get. Leave a comment. Tell me what you did to get the best looking Maggots. I'm your host Derrick Schommer for our Halloween week. We’re teaching you how to drink.
