Hey guys! I’m going to make you a Mint Julep, okay? This is a southern drink and I like southern people. I like southern drinks, too. Let’s do it!
So I'm going to make it in a high ball glass, which isn’t really typically the way these drinks are made. They used to be made in these Mint Julep glasses they’re actually called and they are made out of metal and they’re nice and still. You can’t see through them. I don’t know why they did it. They just did.
I'm going to start off with the mint, so I’m going to throw a couple of leaves. Take a muddler and smash it up in the bottom. This is a nice minty drink. I’m going to put two ounces, the whole two ounces of bourbon on there. There, that’s two ounces right there. What we do is we add some sugar to that because bourbon and mint go good with sugar I guess. So I’m going to splash some sugar in there, a fair amount of sugar. This is simple syrup actually, so it’s not sugar-sugar but it’s sugar water. It’s boiled down and concentrated.
Fill that up with ice and shake it up. Pour it into that glass and there’s a little bit of room because what we are going to do is top it off with a little soda. What people like to do is to put a sprig of mint in there, but I'm just going to put a couple more leaves because I don’t have the stems with me, so that’s a nice pretty delicious drink, isn't it? I'm sure you will enjoy that. Have fun!
