On behalf of tvlesson.com, my name is Mugsy with puppetnetwork.com. Today, we’re making
puppets. Remember your foam rubber? You’re going to grab your foam rubber, and when you
take your foam rubber and you’re going to cut a little V shape here at the bottom, a triangle
shape, like so. Alright, and then fold it, and you’ll see that it’s not quite even, at least mine is not
quite even, yours maybe on the first go. And if it is, I’ll give you props, but what you’re going to
do is you’re going to cut it like that so it’s even. That’s going to help quite a bit, and you’re
going to take your foam rubber, you’re going to pinch it with your fingers and fold it down like
that and hold it on both sides. And this part is a little tricky and you’ll be able to do it eventually,
doesn’t happen overnight, you have to practice. You’re going to insert this into the top of the
puppets head, so you literally going to put it inside the puppet, or the head of the puppet rather.
And you’re going to put it inside the top of the puppets head, and once it’s in there, you’re going
to start to take off your head inside the puppets head and start opening up the foam and shaping it
accordingly, so that it really feels out the puppets head nicely. Alright now, again, I’ve been
doing this for awhile so I have a down to a science but you’re going to want to try it.
What you want to do is you want to make sure the foam is really snug against the top part of that
cardboard inside the mouth. And the reason being, is because it’s going to act as a natural
support for your four fingers inside the roof of the puppets mouth, so when you put your hand
inside the puppets head. If you have an X-ray, this is how would look inside the puppets head;
you’re going to make sure that these four fingers are really, really, towards the front of the
puppets head. And you’re going to sandwich those four fingers between the foam rubber, can’t
find the opening. Here you go, between the foam rubber and the cardboard, ok. And it’s going to
really keep your hand nicely snagging place. And as you can see we already have a little nicely
shape puppet head in there. And the back part of the foam is really securing that back part of
your hand, so your hand is not going anywhere, it’s staying in there nice and snug.
