Okay, we’ve got something fun that you can make easily at home. Your mom is going to love this. It’s just a little musical instrument. It’s got all kinds of dew dots on it and what you need are some cups you can use Styrofoam, plastic, paper cups. Probably some kinds of beans or rice that you can get out of the kitchen pantry, some masking tape to tape the cups together and any scraps of fabric laying around the house that you might have, decorations, bells, ribbons. For this one, I’ve got some bottle caps that I’ve been saving and we’re going to use those for decorative element around the outside and then probably fill this with some beads, which will be kind of fun and I’ve got my beads and buttons and oh, my little fake stones in here, all kinds of odds and ends to pick from. So, let’s get started.
First thing I’m going to do is I’m going to take my two cups and just put some beans in there. We just have kind of variety in here so let’s just throw them all in and let’s just give it some little test and see and that’s pretty noisy to—I think we’ll stick with that. And then we’re going to take some masking tape and we are simply going to just tape these two cups together. First, I’m just going to do some vertical pieces of tape, just to kind of get them in place and then I’ll do a horizontal one that will go all the way around and make sure that its closed tightly and non of the beads are going to escape. So, we’re just going to wrap this tape around here. It doesn’t have to be beautiful.
The next step is going to b, cover it with the fabric. You’ll going to need you hot glue gun and your going to need you scissors close by so that you can—and it doesn’t have to be perfect because your going to cove it with ribbon and you know we’re going to go over this so don’t worry about overlapping a fabric unless you’re an absolute perfectionist, which you really don’t have to be for this project. And I’m thinking maybe we’ll just go this way because we’ll use a lot less fabric. Just cut across here and I’m just going to put some hot glue on here and start and I’m going to pull this. I’m kind of taught so I can stretch my fabric over here. You don’t really need all these so lets just cut some of these excess of right now.
Okay, we’re just going to pull this over and attach it to the fabric that’s already there just like that and then on this end, I’ll cover a little of this off. It ‘s almost wrapping a present but your wrapping a cylindrical object instead of a rectangular and put some glue in there. You just have to kind of play around with it. You may need a little help from the older sibling or the baby sitter again, or mom just to kind of get you to get this positioned. And then we’re going to take this one and I think I’ll just put like a little tuck in it because it’s going to wrap. You can see how I’m trying to pull it tight so it really fits the cups.
Okay, we’re going to put another tuck in it and hopefully, it’ll covered by the bottled cups and I’m going to trim some of this extra off here. I’m just squirting my glue under there and then its like cutting off the excess when your wrapping a package and your going to squirt some glue on the end here, press it down. So, there we’ve got –kind of it muffles the sound just a little having the fabric there. So, I’m going to get rid of some of these and now I’m going to go ahead and glue down my bottle cups.
There, perfect. Now, I think for a little bit of color, we could just put some little beads in the centers of this and we will just get some different size, different shapes just for some variety here and all right. So, we’ve got that and a lot of spider webs to content with.
Okay now, we’ve got that part finished. How about some ribbons. We’re just going to use what we’ve got out here and I’m just going to take this and just kind of tie them with an angle, just tie them off in a knot. Its always nice to have some ribbons hanging down and let’s see, I have the Styrofoam bowl here and I’m just going to cut this in half and then I’m just going to cut into some like tie shape pieces because you can already tell they made really interesting sound when they kind of hit each other.
So, I just happened to have some yarn here and I’m going to thread it to this needle and I’m just going put this through here, just quickly tie them off and I think we can actually do like two on let’s see—and just tie this off and we’re going to find a little spot underneath here and just kind of squirt some glue in there. And then I’m going to stick the end of this inside and to squeeze it close. So we’ve got these extra that I make some sound for us, thread two more here and we’re going to look for a spot inside of here and we’re going to push that underneath hopefully, without getting burned. And then just close the fabric down on top of it so it stays in place and there we’ve got a pretty cool musical instrument and I think I’m just going to take some of these shiny things, our fake gems. Let’s stick them in the end. You can probably put some more around here just for fun. There, you’ve got to go back and pull of all the spider webs and I bet you can make some beautiful music with your friends. If everybody makes one, you can have a little band and some percussion instruments to go with it. So have fun.
Place beans, rice or seeds inside, one of your cups. Tape the second cup on top of the first, wrapping glue fabric around the cups. This will require little more trimming and gluing than wrapping a gift. Glue bottle cups are something else fun around the center. Add ribbons around the center too. Styrofoam bowls cut into tie shape pieces also make and need sound. Decorate with any items as you wish.
