This is a WordPress Tutorial by Mark Mclaren of Mcbuzz Communications on how to create a new post in WordPress. We are going to start with our familiar site, Business Blogging 101. This is a site hosted on WordPress.com and this is where I am posting the completed tutorials that are also available on YouTube. So, this is fairly straightforward. If you look at the other tutorial that is about how to create a new WordPress page, this is much the same.
The key here is that rather to create a page or creating a post. What is the difference? Post is a chronological entry to a website or blog and this is what is typically associated with the blog, kind of a journal style entry that has a date and time. And, the page is more static and traditional website feature that has information that does not change or you do not add to it that often. Sort of sits outside of what is called the blog WordPress loop. Everytime you add a new post, it is going to appear in the center, at the top of your website. And, most blogs have the post on the homepage; however, with the newer versions of WordPress, it is possible to have a static page such as, if you would look at this one, the about page, which this has a little bit of information here about Mcbuzz Communications. You could assign the about page to be your homepage and then have stuff that does not change on there like your statement of purpose or mission, different pieces of information that represent your business or whatever you are using the WordPress site for that you do not want to change that often. And then, on another page, you can feature the blog part of the site.
So here, this is more traditional format on homepage. The blog post featured front and center. Okay, let us create a new post, we are going to log in to the dashboard and I have shown you how to do that in an earlier tutorial so we will not go into that. But, here is the dashboard for WordPress and we are going to write a post which is already selected here. I am going to give it a title “My New Post”, okay, and we are going to click in the visual editing window and here, I am going to tell you how much I Heart Word-you can see the typing is not one of my strengths–WordPress. How much I Heart WordPress. It is not even a complete sentence but hey, this is blogging so what do you want? I am going to assign a category to my post WordPress Tutorials, I have there and now I can save it. If I save it, let us just try that, okay. I am going to save right now and continue editing. That should saves my work, in case I am a little concerned if there is a thunderstorm going on or something like that, I think my computer might go out at any minute. I can go ahead and save my post that I am working on. It is a good idea to do that every now and then depending on whether you have a backup battery.
Okay, but as you can see there, if I go to manage my latest new title down here, it is listed as unpublished, okay. So, that is unpublished until I go back to it, I am going to click on edit for that post that I was working on. That was not the post I was working on. Gosh, I should rehearse this more carefully. My new post was actually the one I was working on. We got two unpublished post in here. You can have as many as you want. Okay so, back to the one that I was working on, how much I Heart WordPress. Now, if I publish, this thing is actually going to appear live on the page. Okay, now we can go and see that. You see right now we got WordPress tutorial in here but we are going to refresh the page and there it is, my new post. Good job! You just created a new post in WordPress.
