Hi! I’m Sandy with Afloral. And today we’re going to make a flower girl pomander ball. This is a round oasis circular piece of fresh flower foam. And this ball has been soaked, so it’s a little bit heavy. So you don’t want to do a large ball. This will be much too big for a little girl to hang on to. There is a smaller one. You could use this size but this is about the perfect size for a little girl to carry.
And what I’m going to do is I started by wrapping some ribbon around. I started at the top twisted it at the bottom like you would do to a package. Put a piece of pin down here. It’s just a little hook hair pin. Bring it back up to the top, tied in a knot, make a long loop and then tied that one in a knot over here. So that way, you can hang on this and it will ever fall off because it’s wrapped all the way around. Okay? So start at the top, bring it to the bottom, twist, bring it back up to the top, tied in knot, tied it tightly and then bring one loop over and tie it again.
And now, we’re going to take some of these daisies because I think it’s important to give little girls flower. And daisies are a beautiful flower for a little girl. You can see how quickly we can fill this ball in. Notice that the stems are relatively short. You don’t want long stems but they need to be long enough to get into the foam. After you put a lot of flowers in here, your stems may start to hit each other. If you have it too long so keep them small as possible. Long enough to hold in and get a drink, and sure enough that it doesn’t cause you frustration when you’re building these.
This is a little difficult to work on because you’d have to hang onto it or you can suspend it from a hook in the ceiling. And you’re going to do this all the way around. You’ll notice that I’ve made my ribbon coordinate with my flower color. And that’s important that you keep all of your pieces coordinated and color coordinated. And of course whatever the occasion is, you want to make sure you’ll match the girls dresses and so on.
Now, you’ll notice this is one of the few if you watch any of my videos that I didn’t start with greenery because our idea here is not greens but flowers. And I thought it’s a little accent. We’ve used a little statis. We have some purple statis, makes it a little darker color which is nice. This way your flower’s—each of your flower had show up by adding some small pieces of dark purple statis. Statis comes in many colors but this one just goes with our ribbon and our daisies.
So you can put little pieces of statis all over. And if you’d like a little softer look at a little girl love baby’s breath, you can add a little baby’s breath. Now we have three shades. We have a darker, a medium, and a lighter color. And I like that. You know I always design with three’s and this time we had not using only three flowers but also three colors to get our design. So you can just finish up by adding little bit of baby’s breath all over and then you have a beautiful flower girl pomander ball. Won’t you love carrying this?
