Hey, guys how is it going? Right now I’m going to be making a rain catch for you. I’m not hiking in the woods right now. I’m at home but this will be good for a demonstration since it’s raining right now. I’m going to be using an emergency blanket, the heavy duty one and some paracord.
So, this kind of rain catch I’m going to make is good to gather water in the wild if you don’t have any other options, so I’m going to show you how it should look and I have like a plastic bag around the camera to try to protect it.
A rain catch is one of your options when it comes to gathering water in the wild. It should be ready to drink in fresh and there’s no need to boil it afterwards. Alright, to start what I’m doing is just attaching paracord to the grommets or the holes in the end of the tarp or the emergency blanket in the four corners just to attach some cord or some paracord.
Alright, so right now I attach the emergency blanket, just the top two ends and using the paracord I did it around the tree, and I use the quick release knot to attach it so all you would have to do is just pull this and the cord would come undone, but it stays tight. That would also be a good nap for a shelter or like a hammock or something.
Someday I’ll make like a knot tying video. Some really good ones for the outdoor and that’s one of them the quick release and the same thing on this side. You could just pull this and it will just come undone if you are in a hurry or something.
Alright, so I have the tarp set up and the way this is set up right now is that it’s going to catch the water up here and funnel down to the bottom right there right into your container. There’s also another way you could make it. You could have all the ends up in the air, so the water all catches in the middle and stays there. It wouldn’t flow into any container. It would just stay in the middle then you could retrieve it after the rain shower or whatever you have to do but for this demonstration I set it up like this so it will flow right into your container.
Alright, right now it’s really windy which is kind of bad for this demo, so I’m going to add a wick my multi tool to the tarp so it doesn’t fly around hopefully that will help a little bit. Also, like I’m going to use tin foil as a water container. It’s one of the things I recommend you have in your survival kit, so this is one of those circumstances where you can use it to fold it into a container.
Alright, here is my container. It’s a little crude but it will be effective and it will work and that’s all that matters. It’s not pretty but it’s going to work and there’s the set up, the tarp with the multi tool laying it down and allowing the water to drip into your container. You can also set it up to drip into your water bottle or whatever you have with you at that time. Tin foil works good. It gives a wide open mouth for the water to flow into so I would recommend that you have it in your survival kit.
Alright, you guys it’s been like 45 minutes and as you can see there’s already some water collecting in there which is a good thing. Like I said this is one of your options to gathering water in the wild that’s not your best option. This will also be useful in a bug-out situation where you might not be getting fresh water so this is a way you can gather water in pretty much any situation when it’s raining.
Alright, you guys thank you for watching. That’s pretty much it on the rain catch video, so thanks for watching. I appreciate your comments, subscriptions, and I’ll talk to you later, bye.
