This week we are showing you how to do the good old knife throw into the forehead effect. This effect was requested by Fresano films, John W., Nickm54, and JDdaJuggalo.
The basics of this effect are still used today. Here is an example of the big budget movie using it right. Maybe you have heard of it, it is called “The Matrix”
Let us spin the wheel.

A fake plastic knife, clear tubing, a plastic syringe and some 12 gage wire.

Do not act stupid in public with real or fake knives. And even if you are not in public you should not be playing around with a real knife. Also there is no occasion during this effect when you should be throwing a real knife. It is always the fake one. If you are throwing a real one you are doing it wrong.
Start by taking you fake knife and painting it to look more realistic I use flat black for the handle and silver on the blade. Now cut the blade in half and then and then cit a small hole at the top.
Take your wire and cut it to about 18 inches, put the wire through the hole in the knife and then hot glue in place. Then the wire to fit snuggly on your actors head.
Next hot glue a blood tube along the side of the wire. Before the shoot put the knife in place try combing your over the wire or have them wear hat. The blood hose runs down the back of their shirt and connects into a plastic syringe full of blood.
The first shooting technique is called a switch film. Film one actor pretending to throw a knife to the MTC and end it with a quick pan. Then film the same movement with your actor with the knife in his head in place then blend in editing.
The second technique is the film from behind the actor pretends to throw a fake knife then your victims head rolls back just like in the matrix the knife was there the whole time.
[Test Film]
