This is my hand stitch tree topper. It’ll add the vintage feel to any tree. The first thing we’re going to start with is just some white fabric. It can be felt, it could be any kind of fabric. I just felt because I kind of want to give a vintage feel on this one and you’re going to start by drawing whatever shape you want in your tree topper to be in. So we’re going to start by cutting this star out.
The next step you want to do is make sure that you put it right on top of this. Lay it perfectly flat and then just grab a marker, and trace it on top of it. So you going to take your thread. You want to keep your stitches somewhat close together. These ones are already done. I’ve put a handmade trim on there, I hem sewed it in that way, it kind of added an extra element and it cleans up the edges. It also is double sided. That way you can have one side pace the street, one side pace in and have two different place on it. The important part is being sure that you do not sew this part.
I’m going to go ahead and stuff this one and what we’re going to use just a regular cotton. So you’re going to take it and you’re going to push it down into each point. After this, I’m going now sew the bottom and for this last part, we can go back to how we did the beginning. So I’m just going to pull it through and just we’re going to come in and out.
Now that I finish sewing the rest of the star and I last a little bit ope. That way, we can put the coil in. I’m going to finish putting on the trim around the edges still leaving about an inch open. After this, I’m going to show you how to attach the coils. So I just started with the basic raffia wire and I took my finger to start the coil. And on the bottom part, I do it about two fingers width because you wanted it to be bigger at the bottom and I start wrapping it around.
So in the end it’s going to look like this. I left enough on the top so when you stick it inside your piece, this is going to keep your star from falling over and it makes sure that it stays up right. The fun part, you can actually add buttons so I’m just going to take it through my button and stick it back through.
After I pull in this button and pull it tight, I can add another button on this side. Buttons had a nice elegant and a 3D effect as well as a holiday feel. My hand stitch tree toppers are one of a kind piece and by hand sewing it, it also gives you the vintage feel.
