Lisa Masterson: Listen up, put down whatever you are doing, because today's show could save your life. As you can see Travis is hard at work with his stress test. Dr. Bairey Merz, Director of the Preventive Cardiac Center at Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute is tracking Travis's progress.
Travis, how are you doing?
Travis Stork: So far so good. I would say good day at work, I am getting some exercise and I have to minimal anxious about this test result though.
Dr. Bairey Merz: It's a stress test so it's designed to create some anxiety but most importantly to stress the heart and to try to identify any abnormalities that wouldn't be obvious in a resting situation.
Travis Stork: I have already got my heart rate up to 85% of my maximum heart rate, right?
Dr. Bairey Merz: Correct.
Travis Stork: You are going to be working here.
Lisa Masterson: Can you tell us why you are not actually running?
Dr. Bairey Merz: It's actually a Bruce Protocol which is the most common protocol that we use and it's actually harder to walk at an incline in a speed on a treadmill meant to run. So we will keep him walking to have a protocol stress test.
Travis Stork: Actually, I asked Dr. Merz to not make me run because I was afraid that I would fall off the treadmill and I don't want to do that. But the truth is this is extremely inclined, and I am already getting a little shorter breath so it's like hiking up a steep hill right now.
Lisa Masterson: Do you have to hold on or can you let go?
Dr. Bairey Merz: He needs to use this just for balance and he cannot have a dead breath. He has to keep up with his own legs.
Male Speaker: Travis, you are in good shape obviously. How are you feeling? Are you winded at all or do you feel any pain? I mean what are -- how are you feeling on that?
Travis Stork: So far so good I had to say. Just getting a little exercise although I am going to a little short of breath as this thing keeps getting steeper and steeper so I am just going to keep walking the whole time but I was going to say, this is a stress test but I'd be much more stressed out if I withdrew right now.
