This video bartending lesson is brought to you by American Bartender School, from one of its simulated cocktail lounge classrooms where students all learn by doing just like on-the-job training and in only one or two weeks they can be fully trained and ready to work as professional bartenders and take advantage of the many full and part time job opportunities available.
The drink that I’d like to show you now is a Rusty Nail. And it’s a scotch-drinker’s after dinner drink. So what I’m going to do is I’m going to show you how to make this straight up. It can also be made on the rocks, and I’m also going to show you how to stir the drink. So to stir a drink, first of all you need one of these glass mixing cups, you’ve got to put ice on it. And because we’re going to make this drink straight up, we’re going to use a stemmed cocktail glass. Now, once we pour our Rusty Nail into this stemmed cocktail glass, the drink is never going to get any colder so we want to keep the drink nice and chilled. So what we’re going to do while we’re preparing the drink is we’re going to chill our cocktail glass, we do that by putting some ice in there, little splash of water, we’re just going to put this on the side here and then we’re going to prepare our Rusty Nail.
So our Rusty Nail is a combination of scotch and Drambuie, we’re going to use two ounces of our J&B Scotch, and then what we’re going to use is Drambuie. Now Drambuie comes from Scotland, it’s actually a scotch-based liqueur which means that’s sweetened, they used Heather Honey and also various spices and herb to give it a unique secret flavor, and also oftentimes people will kind of drink this straight after dinner. So we’re going to use a half ounce of our Drambuie right in there, and that’s sweet. And what we’re going to do is we’re going to stir this drink to get it all mixed together. So here is a long bar spoon, I spin it upside down, and I want to be sure to stir it seven or eight times, we want to get it nice and cold. Nice and chilled now, and we can just slowly go like so, and there we have it.
