How to Make an Alphabet Book - Part 2
And now, I'm going to cut a shape from this one, just about finished here. Glowing means down. So I need one more piece here, one more color. Scissors are sharp and should only be used with adult supervision. And of course, here it doesn’t have to be this elaborate if you don’t want it to be.
This book I actually started cutting the pages at different shapes, the actual pages. This one stayed more rectangular, and I've just divided the pages into two colors with different designs. So this is what I have and what I'm going to do next is I'm going to open up to page one, and I am going to start putting in some of the letters that I've collected already. So I've got A here. So what I actually did was I found an area of red, and cut somebody’s dress on the page on the magazine. And I want to have it out and just cut it out into the shape of an apple.
The fun thing about this is it’s something that kids can do together. They can make them for friends. They can make them for younger siblings, older siblings, and baby sitters can do them with kids. And you don’t have to have a lot of drawing talent. But you do like to draw, you can actually draw the pictures, or if you don’t think you draw that well you can go and find pictures on magazines and just cut them out. So you know it’s a really fun activity to do.
And now, I'm going to oh see I don’t have B, so I'm going to skip a half to as if I have anything for C, and then I have to go back into my magazine, and see what I can find in here. See if I can find a C or that are still. I think what I’ll do, let’s do and then I’ll go ahead and make a thick letter B here.
So, there’s my B. I'm going to set this aside and let my B dry, and I'm going to go ahead and work on the cover cutting out the letters A, B, and C and I think I want to do the A and the C out of red, and maybe use yellow for the B. So I'm just going to cut strip off of the tear and I think I’ll make a boat.
Now if you want to go ahead and draw the letters in pencil, you can do that or you can fold this in here like this and cut it like that. There’s my A and we need a piece about the same size of B. Now, let’s see. The A and C so let’s put the B down and there we got our A, B, C cover.
Now, the last thing you’re going to do, we’ll not the totally last thing because we really need to do some work on this, but you can take yarn, or you can take ribbon and you’re going to put it down on the center. Let’s see if this is long enough or if you happen to have one of those really long armed staplers. That’s good for actually making books and you can go ahead and staple it through the center. And then what I like to do is take a hot glue gun and just glue this down onto the spine of the book. And then you can even put some glue on the center to hold your yarn in the center of the book.
And if you want, you can take some more yarn and then tie some more on here. So you have like a little kind of tassel thing going on here. Now, that I've got my cover on, and my B is nice and dry, it could actually use B for Bunny which wouldn’t be a bad idea. So I'm going to get back to work and back to my cutting, looking through my magazines and my drawing and keep working on my ABC book.
So I hope you’re going to have fun working on your ABC book and I hope yours turns out toward that.
