Here I’ll show you how to make an X-Wing Fighter. We’re going to start from what's called the frog base because otherwise this video would be too long. You can check out my website to see how to make a frog base. So start by folding up one of this triangular tops, this will become out cockpit. Now open this flap up. From the bottom, gently fold this leg up and partly close the flap. This makes an inside reverse fold. Pull the leg down so that it sticks out like so then crease hard. Do this procedure with the three other legs, this will b our wings. Alright, now with four wings, open up this flap. The wing we just made is going to fold down, that’s okay. We’re going to fold these flaps in towards the middle. The bottom edge of the flap should align with this crease as we fold it in.
Once you’ve got that folded, close the flap again and the wing should pop right back into place. Do this procedure with the three other flaps. And now it’s really starting to look like an X-Wing. This is where I got pretty excited the first time I made one. Now fold these wings up and flatten them out. We’re going to fold the edges in towards the middle. This will make the wings thinner. Do this on both sides of course. When you're done, fold everything back down and crease. Now, flip it over and do the two remaining wings. Now here I’m going to deviate from the instructions just a little bit, we need to fold these tops in. Open the flap and you can fold the top down. The diagram says to fold them all the way in but I like to fold these tops on the side only halfway in. I do that for two reasons. One, they kind of look like thrusters and two, it gives you something to hold on to while you're showing this off. And we’ll fold this last top on the bottom completely out of the way.
Now, we’re going to make the lasers. We’re going to inside reverse fold the tips of the wings. This is the same technique we used to make the wings just smaller. And it’s similar to making the head of an origami crane. All these lasers are pointing backward and that’s not going to help us defeat the emperor. So we’ve got a little more work to do. Push this in indentation here flat. Fold the tip back towards the front of the fighter. Then squash the edges of the paper over and crease hard. Do the same thing with the three other lasers.
Now you're pretty much done but there’s one other optional step. You can slide your finger under this tab, that’s the cockpit, pop it up a bit. This works best with a crisp paper, not so great with this cloth based paper I’m using. And there you go, now go save the galaxy.
