How to mark out landscape designs?
Dean: Hey I'm Dean.
Derek: I’m Derek and we are from DIY Network.
Dean: Indoors Out and we’re going to give you some tips on how to mark a design.
Derek: Now, the first thing you want to do is get yourself a paper with a pencil and an eraser, and get specific on your design.
Dean: Once you figured out the shape and the design and the function you want to start marking and measuring, and you should do that with two people.
Derek: Preferably one you’d like so I’m out here. I just don’t want, just joking.
Dean: You know what; you should get yourself a tape that’s about 30 feet long. For larger areas get one of those 100 quarters.
Derek: The other thing you’re going to get. You’re going to get one of these. This is marking paint and I like it. It’s on the ground. I like it because it’s fluorescent. You spray like this, easy to work with or if you want to kick it up a notch, get a paint sprayer, more control and no back problems.
Dean: You know if you don’t want to mark your beautiful lawn, we recommend you get a bag with flower in it. Nip up the corner and you can walk around, and change the shape and nothing gets disturb.
Derek: The next thing that you’re going to do in design. Start up with the square for larger patios. The way you check a square is you measure from one corner to the opposite, that corner to the opposite, so you’re making “X”, and if those measurements are right you have yourself a square.
Dean: And if you want to create one of those beautiful circular designs that are always perfect. The way to do that is put a stick in the middle get a nylon string, tie it to that stick. Tie the nylon string to your paint, and then put it at the measurement that you like, and keep that string tight as you go around the stick all the way around.
Derek: And you know what the most important thing is? Keep it simple.
Dean: Please.
Derek: You can always kick things up and notch with the plants you put around it and the furniture. Simple is better.
Dean: Hey, if you follow these steps, you’ll have a wonderful time going out there designing and marking your outdoor living space.
