Okay. Today, we’re going to talk about this case study that I call The Election day Experiments and one of the reasons why I chose to talk about this in this video is because it really demonstrates the—well one of—anyway the major tactics or strategies that everybody is learning here on the rich author site and in the rich author course. It really demonstrates just how powerful these tactics and strategies are and how an author or an expert can just absolutely dominates search engines and get a massive amount of traffic for not very much work at all as long as you kind of know the inner workings of how Google and the other search engines work and basically how to take advantage of them.
So again, this case study is called The Election day Experiments and I’ll just give you a little bit of background on what it is. Back in late January and early February when a democratic primary was in full swing. What I decided to do is do something really dramatic and probably something that a lot of people would say was pretty stupid. What I tried to do is in less than 24 hours, get sites rank and rank highly and to get a flood of traffic from keywords to quite frankly I had no business whatsoever ranking for. And what I wanted to demonstrate by showing how this works is that the fact that again I had really no business ranking for the keywords that I’m going to show you—I was able to full traffic with. And the point being that as an author or as an expert you do have a legitimate claim to the traffic that I was able to capture in this case study. So if it could work for me, again somebody has no business really ranking for this stuff, it is doubly, triply, quadruply if that’s the word effective for someone like you as an author who has a little legitimate claim again to rankings in traffic from keywords related to your book and your expertise.
So what I did in this Election day experiment, again it was back at the end of January or early February, basically what I want to do is capture traffic for people that were looking for information on two of the democratic primaries, the South Carolina Democratic Primary and the Ohio Democratic Primary and again what I did was in less than 24 hours I was—and actually less than 12 hours each time, I was able to achieved top five rankings. In other words ranking within the top five results of Google for pieces of content that I put up online and I was able to get thousands and thousands of visitors to this content that I posted. And in the process I beat out sites likes CNN, The New York Times and ABC News on their home turf, in other words for news related keywords. You know people searching for information on political primaries. That stuff that should be dominated by the sites like CNN, The Times and ABC News but I spend about an hour of work posting this content and as you can see here I was able to get nearly 5,000 visitors and again to get this sites ranked in the top five in Google. In under 12 hours I basically woke up in the morning said, “You know what, I’m going to really, really try and test this strategy. I’m going to show this how can work for them. I’m going to do it—“ you know, I’m going to do something insane basically woke up in the morning said, “I need to have this piece of content ranked by the time the polls close today.” So let’s say I started working in about 10 AM, the polls close in both cases probably around 7 PM. By the time the polls closed, I had that brand new site, brand new piece of content ranked in the top five of Google. So let’s talk about how that happen.
Basically there are two ways to get people to your website. Really there are three. One is to pay for it with paper ads but that’s not what we’re talking about here. We’re talking about how to get people to your website by getting it naturally ranked by Google and the other search engines. So method number one to do that and this is the one that most authors use, it’s probably the one that you’re using is that you put up a website. You hope Google finds it, you hope it ranks well and you hope people are interested in your book stop by. There’s really no strategy for how to get Google to find it, for how to make Google or the other search engines rank it well. There’s just no strategy or no thought behind it and, you know, it’s really not your fault. I mean you’re not an internet marketer you’re an author. Maybe you’re very, very good at promoting your book offline but online you just can’t seem to get much attraction, it just doesn’t seemed to work. Again, it’s not your fault, you’re not just thinking like an internet marketer.
So there is this method number one, it’s probably the one that you’re using. The problem with method number one is the Google is essentially blind. Google will eventually get around and find your site but they are not, you know, they are actively out there looking for new websites but, you know, if you don’t know how it attract these search engines to your site, it’s going to take a long time to find you and once they do find you they’re really not going to rank you well for most things because they don’t like you. And what I mean by that, Google has nothing against to you personally but unless your site is kind of optimized, unless your content is optimized for what this search engines want, they’re simply not going to give you the rankings that you deserve. And this goes along with the third point here which is Google doesn’t care what you have to say. Again, you know, most authors, most publishers are not internet marketing expert, so you don’t know what the search engines are looking for. Let me clarify that when I say that this is not rocket science by any stretch of the imagination. Its very, very, easy, but if you’ve never been thought how it works, then It’s going to seem like it’s incredibly hard and you’re going to be left stock and you’re going to be wondering why you don’t get traffic, why you don’t get rankings, why you can’t sell your book on line. It’s incredibly, incredibly simple but you just have to know what the process is.
And the amazing thing to me anyway and I need to point this out and this is really why I developed the whole rich authored course or idea behind this whole thing is because online anyone can be the sexiest man alive, and what I mean by that is that you can have a true author expert who cannot get their website ranked and then you have some pseudo experts, some pimply faced high school kids who’s writing an eBook in the basement of his parent’s house and he’s got the number ranking on Google for whatever keyword term there is and you’re there, you know, an accomplished expert, maybe with decades of experience in your filled and you’ve written a great, great book that’s helped thousands and thousands of people and yet when people go on Google and search for your topic that kid is beating you out. You know, maybe you’re not even in the top 100 results when people searched for the keyword that you want to go after. And that’s a real shame and that’s why, you know, again I decided that I really had to do something about that and put together his rich author course to kind of give authors back the turf that they rightfully deserved to knock those pseudo experts with their eBooks and they’re not sense of the top page Google and get the authors that deserve it up there.
Now back to these two ways to get people to your website and this is method number two, the one smart internet marketers use, it’s the one I use every single day to make a living, so I know that it works and that is to figure out where Google all ready is, to figure out what Google all ready likes and then go there with yourself, give them what they already want and take your book with you. Now this may not make a total sense to you right now. You may not understand the concept behind this or why it’s so powerful. That’s why I want you to go ahead and join the rich author site because it’s the kind of stuff that you’re going to learn. It’s incredible powerful, incredibly important and incredibly easy like I keep saying. You just have to know how it works.
So now onto this Election day project and I’m going to show you exactly what happened here with this and how I prove that it works. The plan again with the election day was to take advantage of a timely topic, the South Carolina and Ohio Democratic Primaries which took place again in back in late January and February. And what I wanted to do again was to get a site ranked in the top 10 for a massive traffic keyword in less than one day and I told you how that worked before. Basically I started work on this project in the morning and by the time the polls closed in the evening I had to—my goal was to have a top 10 ranking. It worked better than I thought because I got a top five ranking like I said but that was the plan.
Now, again as I said before, any kind of rational person would basically say you’re nuts, it can’t work. I know nothing about politics anymore than the average person does. I don’t have a respected website in the political field. Google couldn’t care less what my opinions are when it comes to politics, believe me. And again, as I showed you before some of the most respected names and news and politics are ranking there are ready. We’re talking about sites like again CNN and New York Times, CBS News, Fox News, CBS Market Watch. So this is not—I mean, you know, I’m just a guy literally working in his sweat pants in his home office, in a spare bedroom is going to outrank these behemoths of the news. It’s really quite crazy and that’s why I wanted to use this extreme example to show you that it does work and if somebody like me could do this then an author who really knows his subject or her subject and is an actual expert, sky is the limit for you. So that was my point in trying to do this.
Now again, here’s one of the results from the South Carolina Democratic Primary from that one hour of work I said where I basically just posted a piece of content, we’re number five, hit number five by the time the polls closed and you can see one of the sites that we’re ranking right above at this kind of snapshot in time when I took this screen capture right below my piece of content is content from a site called Erasmus and Report. And if you’re not familiar with politics, you don’t follow politics, Erasmus and Reports is a huge polling firm very well respected with an incredible amount of authority and here I am, you know, again ranking above them and that’s just one example. As I said before, not only there we beat Erasmus and Reports but we were outranking CNN, The New York Times, The Huffington Post, Real Clear Politics, which is a enormously popular political blog. All of the major news networks ABC News, CBS, FOX, NBC, MSNBC, you know, just about everyone quite frankly because when you ranked at number five, you know, there aren’t many sites that are going to be ahead of you. One of the ones that was, was the actually homepage of the South Carolina Democratic Party. One of the other ones was—I'm trying to think now. I think actually the South Carolina Democratic Primary had two pages and the top five and then there were two more and then me. So it’s absolutely, absolutely crazy, you know, just how effective the strategy is and how it cannot just do wonders for marketing your book online.
So now that was the South Carolina Democratic Primary results. I also added in some content for the Ohio Democratic Primary and also which I forgot about actually Texas and you can see here this is a new example of a piece of content that I posted talking about the Texas Democratic Primary and it talks about Barack Obama’s book The Audacity of Hope. I’ll just about Mark Penn’s Book. Mark Penn, rehashing, kind of flagging a dead horse here now that the primary season is over but Mark Penn was one Hillary Clinton’s senior advisers and he wrote a book called micro trends which is actually very interesting. We talked about that in this piece of content too but—.
So when you add in the efforts that we did in—or that I did in South Carolina and Texas and Ohio, you can see here the results from that work is we’ve got a grand total of 4,858 visitors and you can see here right to the left of that column that says views where you can see how many people stop by and read the content you can see that it was only—you can see here which is uploaded four days ago, four days ago and then on January 26. So you can see, you know, it’s not like something I put up six months ago and this is how many views I’ve got. This is how many people—this is how many visitors I got in four days and again we got rankings immediately, we got rankings within the day and then within 96 hours after posting that content we had almost 5,000 visitors.
So that’s pretty doing going for not a lot of work and for, you know—again, I can’t stretch it enough. This is just four days that a lot of people, a lot of you out there probably who have been trying to market books online probably don’t get 5,000 visitors to your website in a month. This is something again that took no time, no time at all and again you know it’s for keywords that I had absolutely no business ranking for. So this is just an example, what can you do with this kind of traffic. Well, what I did basically just to track and see what people did it was not an effort to make money at all. I didn’t really try and monetize it too much. What I did though is I did again tell people about Barack Obama’s book and you can see here this is my affiliate report from amazon.com that people actually did come by.
We did actually sell a few of Barack Obama’s book so that was pretty cool. That was a bonus. But again, that was not my main focus, what I wanted to do is just show that it’s possible and that you can get traffic using this. And again, you know, what can you do with this traffic I showed you that of course you can try and sell your book. But what I would do, you know, that’s not really the main focus that I would use for this actually. I would maybe trying to track media attention. I could very easily have turn that content where I linked to Barack Obama’s book. I could have held myself out in some sort of, you know, political expert and trying to get the media and interviews if I was selling. God forbid if I try to do that. But, you know, a real—again, a author expert like you certainly that’s something that you want to do. Imagine getting 5,000 reporters. Well, they’re not all reporters obviously but imagine getting say my who knows, of those 5,000, maybe a couple of dozen of them were reporters looking for information on the primary.
Imagine being able to reach those reporters, those members in the media literally with a tiny amount of effort, you know, that’s the definitely one of the main things that I might try and do once you learn these strategies that we’re teaching here in the rich author. I would try and attract media attention. I would certainly, certainly try and build the mailing list. I would alert reviewers, you know, maybe somebody’s again a reporter, a member of the media is stopping by your site and they find your book and, you know, they then review it as result to that, who knows. You can attract bloggers who were going to write about you. And there’s a ton of stuff that I’m not even talking about or that I haven’t even thought of yet, I’m sure maybe you’re thinking of some ways that aren’t even on this list that you could use this traffic. So it’s really endless and again, you know, the point is I didn’t do much with the content. I just want to show if it get ranked and I wanted to show who get visitors. I didn’t quite frankly have a lot of time to spend on developing the actual content that I put up because I was under such a time constraint. You know putting up this new site in the morning and in getting it ranked by the end of the day. You know, I didn’t really have a lot of time to spend on content creation. So keep that in mind when you think about some of the things that you could do with this traffic. The main thing that you can do is that you can reach your target audience and that’s the whole point of this.
Now this again, this is just the tip of the iceberg because it’s not just for timely topic. The example that I’m showing here is very dramatic. You know, it’s very—I wanted to do it because like I said I wanted to demonstrate that not only could you rank for some kind of obscure keyword but you could do it for something that is getting a lot of traffic, getting a lot interest, getting a lot of searches and is really dominated by, you know, the big boys, the CNN, The New York Times of the World. But it’s not just for timely topics, in fact it works even better evergreen topics because most of the time you’re not competing with those kinds of websites.
So really, you know, I don’t want you to get the impression that this is just for news where the topics where it’s capitalizing on hot trend or something like that. It works better for evergreen topics. So to sum up basically, what you’re going to learn here on the rich author once you get join the site, you’re going to learn basically how to get sites ranked in a matter of hours .You’re going to learn how to generate thousands of visitors a day to your site. You’re going to learn how to get people talking about your book online and again it works for dozens or 100 of keywords related to your book. Every book is different every market is different but you know depending on what your book is about. There are going to be keywords out there definitely that you can rank for, that you can rank for quite quickly and quite easily and that are going to send just you know a flood basically of traffic to your site.
