How to Massage the Legs

The leg. Apply oil to the leg and stroke the leg in long movements from the ankle to the hip. Check for varicose veins and use caution in those areas where varicose veins are present. Massaging the legs can aid in prevention of varicose veins by improving blood circulation to the leg. Always stroke towards the heart. Apply circular kneading of the foot. Apply pressure between tendons and the bone using the fingers and thumbs. Massage and rotate each toe while gently pulling on the toes. Using the palm of both hands, stroke the leg in the direction of the heart.

Use the hand over hand motion to knead the front of the lower leg. Manipulate the knee cap by massaging in a circular motion with your thumbs. Apply fulling or compression movements around the knee and thigh. Effleurage up the entire leg. Proper stance is important because it can reduce fatigue and allows mobility and power. Apply downward strokes with your fingers to the bottom surface of the foot and then begin ringing the foot. Use thumb to strip the bottom of the foot.

Using circular motions, knead the foot. Squeeze and milk the foot by using both hands. Using light strokes, work your way up the leg from the foot. Apply petrissage and a hand over hand motion on the front of the lower leg. Effleurage over the front of the lower thigh. Once again, gently pull and rotate each toe. Move to the other side and repeat. Stroke the leg in the direction of the heart. Squeeze or milk the foot by using both hands. Massage and rotate each toe while gently pulling on the toes. Using light strokes, work your way up to the leg from the foot. Apply petrissage and a hand over hand motion on the front of the lower leg. Manipulate the knee cap by massaging in a circular motion with your thumbs.
