Vicky Letch: Hello, I'm Vicky Letch, and this ma is our model Adrian, and I've been joined by Nicola Doe here at Champneys Health Resort. Hello! And Nicola is just about to demonstrate to myself and all of you on how to massage the thigh area.
Nicola Doe: So I am just going to work out onto the thigh area. Just warming the area first of all.
Vicky Letch: When you say warming the area, is that all about relaxing muscles, are you literally moving up the skin, and getting it ready?
Nicola Doe: Yeah of course, really. So you're warming up the skin just to make it a little more relaxing, and also warming up the muscles, so you can rub hard into those areas as well, otherwise it can cause some problems.
Vicky Letch: Okay. We that must be quite difficult, if you get a rugby player around.
Nicola Doe: Yeah. So I have massaged a couple of rugby players before.
Vicky Letch: That would be really tricky I think.
Nicola Doe: I got tired at the end. Okay, so we can do some knuckling.
Vicky Letch: Well, knuckling, okay.
Nicola Doe: We're trying into the lymph glands.
Vicky Letch: Well, you're trying in?
Nicola Doe: The lymph.
Vicky Letch: The lymph, okay.
Nicola Doe: We are throwing away the toxins.
Vicky Letch: Right. That was quite tricky on that one actually.
Nicola Doe: It's just a matter of setting your knuckles. So you can imagine you're making bread and kind of kneading.
Vicky Letch: Yeah. When I said it's like kneading, I did totally like I do make bread all the time in a day.
Nicola Doe: I was just met --
Vicky Letch: I am searching a good maker. I don't remember how to knead. So is this still about warming up or you are now doing the work?
Nicola Doe: You can break the leg up into three sections where you have outside, inside and the leg as well.
Vicky Letch: Now I've noticed that you stand in particular ways when you're working. Is it just your individual or are you told to stand in this position to apply this amount of pressure?
Nicola Doe: Yeah, especially for your posture, so you don't cause yourself any injuries, and also you can apply more pressure onto the body itself.
Vicky Letch: But, I imagine how to really watch that because if you have to stretch for someone --
Nicola Doe: That's why you'll be wanting a massage every other day as well, because you will be very tired as well So you actually do need to keep the back straight, legs, and forwards, and come back, and knuckle on this position and then put your weight in the back of the leg as well.
Vicky Letch: Okay. Thank you so much for educating us on how to massage the thigh area. Some top tips for all of us, the girl out there?
Nicola Doe: Okay. Always make sure to put enough oil, because especially if you're massaging the men, they would have hair in their legs. So it starts to friction and it makes it more comfortable for men, apply enough oil so you get enough slip. Always apply towards the heart as well, so your pressure is working upwards, and light on the way down, and make sure it's a flowing technique as well that you are using.
