Coach Dave: Okay, welcome at Golf is Hard TV, Golf Show for the Rest of Us! And now we're talking about the --
Marc: I don't think you said that with enough passion.
Coach Dave: Really?
Marc: Yeah.
Coach Dave: The most passionate golf show on the Internet, Golf Is Hard TV, The Golf Show for the Rest of Us! Which is just about everybody, including us.
Okay, now this is an uphill lie, Let me ask Marc, because you are becoming a well educated golfer on an uphill lie, am I going to tend to hit the ball higher or lower than normal?
Marc: I'm going to say that you're going to tend to hit the ball higher and I say that for two reasons. One is in the previous episode you tend to hit the ball lower on a downhill lie. And I also feel like it's sort of inevitable. You are swinging up, it's going to pop up in the air.
Coach Dave: Yeah, the answer is higher. So process of elimination you use, right?
Mark: That's how I did well on the SATs by the way.
Coach Dave: I thought you scored 800.
Marc :Not quite.
Coach Dave: That is correct. We're going to hit the ball higher and it is a feeling and it's process of elimination and it's also the fact, there is a heck of lot more loft on the club. This is a normal sand wedge and because you can see the club face, when I get in position to hit this shot which again we are fooling the golf ball remember into thinking this is a flat lie meaning I'm getting my body perpendicular to the ground.
Now, just about with any short game shot, I mean this applies to a full swing or short game whatever but the body position -- any short game shot, you generally want to have your weight towards the hole just for balance. But in this case, it's really not as possible to lean into it because you can see my body is out of position. I have got to get it here.
Now, if I have a long distance or a lot of green to cover, simply you can take, this is a the biggest tip here, is to take more club. Hit the shot with the 9-iron or 8-iron, it's going to fly as high as a sand wedge because of this severe uphill lie, and that's the way you get that extra distance. If I just take my normal shot with the sand wedge, that ball basically went straight up in the air. I need a lot more swing if I have a lot of green to cover. Why risk it? Remember the lower the shot, lower the risk, remember that?
So now I take that same shot and I use my 8-iron. I know I didn't switch clubs. However it's going to fly a little lower for you but the key is get your body perpendicular to the ground and these uphill lies stay in balance and just let your body swing and the club swing with the slope of the land and you are good to go.
