You watch last week show. You've the perfect homework plan in place, action statements. You had estimates. Prioritize the activities you're ready to go in an hour later. Nothing has changed.
You thought, Hey! This was the perfect plan, full proof. The frustration ensues, yelling to back and forth, maybe it was just a question of distraction versus focus.
The text messaging, iPod, those activities, it was better left for the study breaks. Maybe it was just the sunny day outside, an easy way to get distracted or even the bug crawling across the leaf outside, you never know what control you're.
It's touch to be the horse with blinders when there are so many distractions around. So what can you do.
Number one, find a consistent study space. The traditional desks works for some people. For others, the bed or the family couch. The kitchen tables another good spot or even the hammock outside. Focus on the goal getting things done.
Number two, a consistent time. Whenever possible try and count on a specific time of day when you can look forward to getting homework done. The goal maximizing focus while minimizing distraction.
And finally tip number three, one question as a parent that you can ask your middle schooler. How can I help? That's the one question that you need to ask and that is the only question that you need to ask and then just get out of the way. Let your kids have an opportunity to step up, take responsibility, build some independence with this homework. It's theirs, not yours. That's all I have for you. Take care.
