All right, folks. Jonathan, here. This video is all about harmonic mixing and we are going to relate that to the pitch control here. Very quickly, let us say for example, the pitch control is dead center, in other words you can just about see that light flashing there. If this particular piece of plastic here is a 33 and 1/3 rpm, in other words you have to play it at 33 and 1/3 rpm, that means that it will move around this particular turntable 33 and 1/3 revolutions in one minute.
If we then start to decrease like so, it will go from 33 and 1/3 to maybe 30, 29, etc. That is one thing that will happen. The other thing that will happen is the beat will start to slow down. Bum, bum, bum, bum like so. If we move the pitch to the plus position, what will happen is it will go from 33 and 1/3 to 34, 35, 36, etc. Also the beat will speed up. Exactly the same thing applies with 45 revolutions per minute, etc. I hope you get the general gist idea.
Two major facets are happening when we slow the pitch down and we speed the pitch up. The first one is of course the beat will slow down and the beat will speed up. The second one which is what this video is all about, that is the phone is going. The other thing that will happen is the actual tone. I have got two phones through there and one is going ring and then one in the kitchen stopped its ringing. Never mind, ignore it.
Back to the video, the other thing that will happen is the actual tone and the key of the music will increase and decrease when let us say for example we have the pitch there and we have a Ahhhh, like that. As we move the pitch down it ill go ahhwwwwww. As we move the pitch up, it is go ahhppppp, like that. If you have got a certain tone, a certain key, it is going to decrease or increase and I am going to play this piece of music and we will have a listen and I will show you exactly what I mean.

Forget the beat, just listen to the sound.

Okay, right, now, what we are going to do, we are going to put this into practice. Let us say for example, we have a piece of plastic on here and it is turning quite happily and we will do that. We have got the pitch set at that particular point there. Let us say they sound fantastic together. They are in key but they are out of beat. They are not beat matched. Let us say again we have to increase this pitch up to here to beat match them…
