All of the sudden that perfectly beat matched but what happened now is that then now active key. Now, this is a fact, what will happen is if you are moving, you have to move the pitch to much to get them into beat. There is good possibility they will go out of key that is a very important factor. Now, what we have got, we have got them in beat and they are working fantastic, the beats are going together but all of the sudden they do not sound right. Now, this is a problem, a lot of DJs face. Now, there is a rule of some, correct me if I am right, correct me if I am wrong. If I take the actual lens cap off now, so we can put a lens cap it is just that the picture I think you did for it whatever you want to call it.
If I just go a bit closer, now then let us say for example and again this does very important, it depends on if you are working, you see a fine move at here, now. Here we have got 10, 20 and 50, in other words we can need the half of this pitch control here to plus or minus 10, plus or minus 20, plus or minus 50. So, of course if you on plus or minus 50 which you would not be doing if you want to do some decent beat matching, you are only going to be moving that pitch control very tiny amounts. Ideally, plus all minus 10 even plus all minus 8, it gives you a better scope and more maneuver ability with the pitch control.
There is a general rule of thumb, if let us say, you are on plus all minus 8, plus all minus 10, if you have to stop moving the pitch from this point when that key locked and there is a good sound together. If you have to stop moving the pitch all the way down here or all the way up here to get them in beat, then it is going to be out of key and it is going to sound to trousseaus but there is a general of thumb and that is if you are only going to have to move the pitch a tiny amount and that is fine. When you stop having to move the pitch, a great distance then they will not sound well together.
Now, a lot of people do ask me and they say “I have got two tracks, one is of 140 BPM and the other one is 110 BPM and I would love to get them beat match, I would love to mix them.” the truth and the matter is you might find it very difficult to do that because that the actual BPM is to far away from each other, they are too far away.
General rule of thumb is this and that is if you are only moving the pitch, a tiny amount that is fine. If you are going to stop to move the pitch a great deal then yes, you might get it in beat but you may stop to loose the key, the tone, the feel of the track that is very, very important.
I hope this is been a help and by the way this particular track here is a list of mortgage I am your man and it is the green velvet mix and what I going to do one serious mash up very shortly. Practice and enjoy.
