Welcome to Common Man Cocktails, I’m Derrick Schommer. This week we’re going to do the Captain Morgan on Acid. I don’t exactly know what that supposed to mean but one of my favorite drinks, Captain Morgan. I like it so much. I always buy the private stuff. This is the top shelf Captain Morgan. You can get normal Captain Morgan, you can get silver. Don’t mind me with my high-end stuff.
So what we’re going to do is we’re going to have one ounce of Captain Morgan. We’re going to do one ounce of Blue Curacao, a splash of pineapple juice. We’re going to do some coconut rum, one ounce and they’re going to go on that couple of shot glasses. A his and her pair. You can share this with your spouse or whoever.
So let’s make this drink and see how it tastes. We’re going to do here we go, our one ounce of Captain Morgan, spicy. This is the spicy Captain Morgan. I don’t know if they make a non-spicy Captain Morgan. One, we’ll do a splash of this. We don’t want to do that. Don’t do it, don’t do an ounce of curacao, it’s a bad idea, it’s so super sweet. One ounce of coconut rum that doesn’t go on there. We’ll do our splashes, this is a super cool color and I think that maybe this is the acid part. I don’t know. It’s like a $6.00 at the liquor stores. You should always have a bottle on hand because a lot of tropical drinks call for it. A little more, I don’t think it’s a splash.
We’re going to do a splash of pineapple juice. Now we’ll mix that in our shaker. That should be good. No ice in this one, these are just his and her shots. One—and typically you’re looking at two ounce or a double shot if you will. That way it—you get enough. If you don’t put enough in there it’s just not going to be the same. You’re going to end up having making extra ones. I guess you can make one for yourself and the other one for yourself.
Now it does look pretty cool right? Now for some reason, the super secret trick here, we pull off the grenadine for a last added ingredient. One drop maybe two of grenadine. Now the trick is I don’t have a dropper so I’m just going to go old school. I don’t know how this makes it old school but you know what? It’ll work. I think I just drop an extra one in there. There you go, his and her pair, a little red on the bottom. That must be the acid drip. It’s kind of—I can’t even explain this. Like a turquoise color but it’s so cool. It smells pretty much like pineapple, just lots of pineapple and a little coconut. Take it very, very small hint, just try it out. That’s crazy. So many flavors, it’s even hard to describe. It’s got a slight spicy, from the spicy rum but yet it doesn’t taste that much like rum even considering those two different rums in there. The coconut and pineapple really, really overwhelm the drink in a good way. Like its sweet but not over bearing sweet. If you don’t like a really, really sweet drinks like Schnapps, you might want to try this. It’s not really that bad for the sweet factor. I think the coconut and the pineapple kind of take away from any over bearing sweetness
And I’m really not sure why they have to be so small. It’s very tasty. Anyway, you definitely want to give this a try, you get a second one incase you’re still thirsty.
