Female Speaker: You have arrived at Mag Rack and now inside weddings.
Carley Roney: Hi I'm Carley Roney editor and chief of The Knot and you are watching inside weddings. After the drama of actually picking your bridal party the dress is the next big drama. But fortunately going to the day is of all those nasty sea form taffeta, atrocities and there are actually really great bride maids dresses out there. So we took Gabriella and one of our girls took -- in exclusive New York City brides maid dress designer who has an incredible collection let's take a look. Oaky Gabriella we are going to pick out some brides maid dress they at least try some on. Now you want to get a sense of what you are interested in looking at pictures is ultimately the best way for us to start to get a share in signs that may be what we should be looking for as once you tell me what you found.
Gabriella Del Carro: This what I was looking at when I found this dress and what I liked about it was was the style of a how it has an empire waist line and its very simple but I think it would be very flattering on every body. What I found here with these two dresses and I think I found myself leading to which to strapless dresses.
Carley Roney: Interesting.
Gabriella Del Carro: At least for two of the girls, I'm just because I was liked the way the shoulders then neck line look on that.
Carley Roney: The pretty collar bones and nice jewelry there will be nice and this one are pretty looks small versatile clean model in looks.
Gabriella Del Carro: Here I choose this picture just for a color pallete.
Carley Roney: This is interesting too the way they are mixing and matching all the neck lines here is great.
Gabriella Del Carro: Yes I like this for the color I just felt like a path in the picture and up here I like this dress actually because of the shape of it. It seems a little bit A12 which you could be flattering.
Carley Roney: As this little back in carols.
Gabriella Del Carro: Yes exactly and it also been sort of looking in this print may be possible doing something with the print with girls.
Carley Roney: I like your so open I like that, that's really exciting.
Gabriella Del Carro: Yes.
Carley Roney: So how many brides maids do we have?
Gabriella Del Carro: In total of three bridesmaids
Carley Roney: Three bridesmaids and they all the same age pretty much or their age variations between them because that sometimes can difference from what choosing dresses.
Gabriella Del Carro: They are pretty much all in the same age range.
Carley Roney: And that is about.
Gabriella Del Carro: In their mid 20's.
Carley Roney: So they are all in their mid 20's what about bodies are the same coloring pretty much the same okay.
Gabriella Del Carro: All are very, very different.
Carley Roney: Where I have a flower girl my niece Manteno and may be a ring white but we don't know if he will be able to walk as he won't be 13 months we are going to try we want to shot.
Steven Montemagno: It will be the first shot that she has been practicing for were for all the flowers.
Gabriella Del Carro: And for the girl I think I want to have a dress that stands all out a little bit more a very full frill sized little girl looking dressed because she is like that. Takes the princess of the family so we want to make something fit her.
Carley Roney: There are couple of things you want to consider when choosing your bridesmaids dresses. One off course is the over all sort of style of the wedding that you are having is it formals, the casuals we already know that your wedding is pretty formal. It will help drive us to figure out you know when the wedding is what time of day its at because that will, that is a factor in terms of choosing the fabrics and the actual styles of dresses and also color is clearly very important because since it happens in the ceremony it is one of the first big bunches of the color people see then you can carry that throughout the rest of the wedding.
Let's take a look at some colors because this one vary from different things you can do. We know you are working with your color is pink. Off course very pink and so there is a lot of difference variations we can work with in the pink department. You can either have you know an overall you know pink. You can also have you know a different shades of pink here is a bright pink but that has a it is almost like a fusion it has a light pink with it there is a cinnamon that can be combined with the pink. And here you have got the cinnamon and there you could have a pink on top of that the fabric that you choose can actually make a big difference this is called a foil. You see it's a pretty formal fabric and it has this like a ridging to it or you see it's a crisp sort of formal fabric same with a Satin here is the dress cinnamon color we were talking about and this is a satin head to tail.
These are both formal feeling fabrics that what you will be wearing to sort of an evening affair I mean you can certainly wear them during the day but they create a very different feeling for you. Now these are different from what you get here which is this is georgette this is a very flow which has a satin band and across it but, it creates a very different feel for your bridesmaids and this is an organza and you see that it has a crispness to it but it still once again a slightly last form of fabric. Now what about length whatever you thinking about in terms of length.
Gabriella Del Carro: I like they do have a long flowing length gown.
Carley Roney: Okay because clearly that is a very formal feel. What about best tips for brides who are planning on weddings and choosing bridesmaids dresses is to actually find a fabric that you love find a color that your lover or a series of colors that you loves and said something that you are thinking about and then let the bridesmaids choose the style of dress that looks good on them. So Beth Blake this is Gabriella she is our bride.
Beth Blake: How are you?
Carley Roney: Gabriella this is Beth. I wanted her to come out here and help us you know through the real process of picking out your dresses and give you some ideas.
Beth Blake: Do you have you know a little bit of an idea of what you want.
Gabriella Del Carro: I do like the idea of them in long dresses just because I think its more dramatic and more elegant and as far as colors I like all shades of pink and I really want to play up all the different colors all the different shades in there so I'm willing to make combinations of having one on shade and one in another.
Beth Blake: That's what that's what we thought to tell.
Carley Roney: Well that's what I thought, I though that's the party you are finding principles like with red. Like they are going to mix in match world I wanted you to sort of give us the secret inside our a version of all different dresses in fairy's instead of mixing and matching and I thought that will be fine. It's so important to make sure that your bridesmaids feel comfortable on that. You need your mail bridesmaids to be really on your team and the dress is the dress is the first way to alienate that.
Beth Blake: Often have bridesmaid they are going to be happy that they have to be forced into necessary buying it or some wearing a dress. Pink has been really popular and there is all shapes of it we make sure these are all pink shades that look pretty on everybody. This look likes totally different dresses but they work together. You kind of end up looking like each girl kind of went her on own boutique and bought here dress and kind of suit her personality but it's a cohesive.
Carley Roney: It's in very modern I think to actually have that, that you can tell their all sort of in the same school of thought and at the same sort of style but there are different dresses on different people.
Beth Blake: For September as you guys wearing September you can kind of -- that will be your intent to fall in your little pink time could be your kind of you know adding your summer color.
Carley Roney: This goes with the skirt also this is separate once again.
Gabriella Del Carro: And it is also very flattering color too in the girls.
Beth Blake: It is it looks good on everybody and the pink is just so sweet with that.
Carley Roney: You're made of and you said it's a little bit fusty so what tips do you have for that like what she what she could feel for what she direct hers towards to feels some more comfortable.
Beth Blake: Every one to win they say big basted means so many different things you know some big buster goes were stop less all the time and our stop less and actually all our dresses have boning in them so you get really good you know fit here in its nice you are held in well. So I think instead of asking really work.
Carley Roney: What fabric do you recommend for formal?
Beth Blake: Well I think Duchess satin is always part of it's a formal fabric but organzas are as well. We kind of
Beth Blake: Yeah that is duchess.
Carley Roney: This is coming in the full length
Beth Blake: That's just -- and this is also duchess satin which is like the perfect little pink dress.
Carley Roney: To make up the patterns isn't that new in bridesmaid.
Beth Blake: This might be the dress of all the bridesmaids lets say and this might be the maid of honor the print or will view a party of eight, four will do this, four will do this and you know you have this kind of fashions a put up a little bit.
Carley Roney: Can you mix and match lengths as well.
Beth Blake: That's another thing I think sometimes they will do with the maid of honor in full length and then the rest of the girls may be petty length or you know we thought a couple of weddings which I think you are so much finance would ever the girls picked out something short something long some length and it just you know kind of was a fashion show. Basically kind of all these dresses come for length were to show you this is kind of pale pink natural waist one this is for length and this is a blared organza with the cupper bond has the three layers of pink at the bottom.
Carley Roney: I really like that as you can use like three shades, and it is really pretty.
Beth Blake: And there are very light fabric but I think they you know once you dress they are very to be very formal you know it's been still kind of being play full same type.
Gabriella Del Carro: I really didn't want to have to force the girls and to have it like the same dress but I prefer they all wear the possibility of actually matching the few dresses and I feel its really nice and especially you introducing the colors and the different shapes. I went with my sister and we tried on few dresses.
Daniela Padovan: Any time I doing thing with my sister I have a fun especially when it comes for wedding. And we ended up liking the most attract the were the combinations of few dresses for my sister made of honor it was alien dress with straps and as synch to waist. It's a beautiful dress definitely it's very different than what you normally expect the bridesmaids dress. The one that liked as the empire waist for me I think it actually is flattering for all body types which is its comfortable which is the most important thing and I love the material is siphon its pink which is what she want it but its three different shape for the pink which is really nice.
Gabriella Del Carro: And I'm sure you like it my favorite good definitely.
Daniela Padovan: I love the color the love the style.
Beth Blake: You needed a little girls dress.
Gabriella Del Carro: Flower girl
Beth Blake: It's a perfect pink little flower girl dress.
Gabriella Del Carro: What I liked it for the girls was the same dress but may be strap less and also had a different color like this mu sister would be in a dark color and the girls will be in a lighter color. There was strapless like this which I'm going to picture like this.
Beth Blake: That these are shows toppers your bottom layer become little bit more shocking pink it doesn't really flow with the rest of it. if you feel like it is not but I think its pretty with all shades of pink.
Daniela Padovan: I think it finally helped me my sister is getting married. Because I started thinking of when I before and how we re going to prepare and what I'm going to do with my daughter and it hit me as happy as I'm you its just its hard. Its hard because I know I'm going to cry I think so I have to just get together keeps me together for her.
Gabriella Del Carro: I tried on the dress because the other girls look has a body type like me and I thought really comfortable in it. So what's the next step is probably to take the other girls with us and go out together and try them one again and if there is something else that they like they want it more to try it on I'm so flexible with that.
Carley Roney: What happens after somebody orders and dress?
Beth Blake: We actually place the order together so once all your three of your girls have chosen their dresses now everything is complete you know forms or sign in that kind of being we set a factor to be cuts and we kind of put it altogether once to their complement same dialog there is no issues like that kind of think.
Carley Roney: When do you need to put your order in back?
Beth Blake: Here we take 10-12 weeks for delivery.
Carley Roney: It's depending on all different designers.
Beth Blake: We can also begin six weeks four weeks two weeks if we have to it will cost a little bit but we can do it we can turn it around it will half to so everything is feasible so just a matter of you want to be relaxed about it and you know you have their dresses to them about a month in advance for the wedding so they can do any kind of alterations, co-ordinate shoes and that kind of thing.
Carley Roney: What tips do you have in terms of coordinating with the groom's men and what are your sort of flower girl don't you, flower girls so what fast do you have there.
Beth Blake: You can have so much fun with that if you want we can coordinate exactly the color and fabric of your dress for ties for the boys depending on if you are going to black tie wear the choice certainly made they are going to be in bow tied and -- or if they are going to be suits and you can do ties or bow ties so then just ask for pocket squares and colors which I think was a fine idea.
Gabriella Del Carro: And I also liked coordinating the little grooms tie possibly to the girl's dress which is something that I had in my mind before and even the accessories for that for the brides I really nice.
Beth Blake: This is some bags that we done are just fun little things we can coordinate that when there are great guest were they also use the day of the wedding or the night of the wedding is a part of it. This is one of our new hot items this pearl is $50 the ribbon could be any color you want so his is a fun gift.
Carley Roney: One other things that we could do to is they have wraps that match the lot of the dresses because that's nice way that they could be covered during the ceremony then take it off for the reception also September make cold at night.
Gabriella Del Carro: I love people to give them their accessories you know they will pay fro the dress and they will not be able to be hop them in this way.
Beth Blake: Its true you kind of want to help them out without begin completely you know feeling like your trying to make them grand by wardrobe.
Carley Roney: So the important items on the check list there are the dress the under garments are very important thing for people to figure out because different under garments work with different dresses, there is no bag the shoes and you kind of want to know all those items and make clear to them what items you are expecting them to take care every one items you are going to be taking care off, jewelry as you said which items here you know going to control them or trying to join because we set that up right in the beginning.
Beth Blake: And then you want them to be alert of put their own personal tough to things as well and to be coming like you all you need to form but absolutely that so.
Carley Roney: But thank you so much Beth this is been great by educational ways such a beautiful and loved your best work.
Beth Blake: Thank you so much.
Gabriella Del Carro: Thank you so much.
Beth Blake: Thank you so much Gabriella good luck.
Gabriella Del Carro: Thanks.
Carley Roney: I loved how which the colors are in bridesmaids dresses are at these days. Now bridesmaid's dresses are at these days. Now bridesmaids consider of mix and match they can have different styles as long as the dresses are complementary that the colors go together that the girls consider having individuality about it. Same goes with their hair too let they need to wear the hair the way they want to don't dictate the hair styles which is not a good idea. Be good to your bridesmaids it's an honor to be your brides maid I'm sure people are very happy about it. But any way it can't become their full time job. It's also really important to give them a really good bridesmaid gift.
Gifts that actually reflect to your bridesmaid personalities you don't have to give them all the same thing you can give them complementary thing the different ways that match each other different styles different poses they go the same way and one of my favorite idea is a beautiful little frame of photo album that has pictures of your best time together as friends.
