Victoria: Hi, I am Victoria. My dog Hexy is 11-year old but he has now moved to Connecticut which is a small move but bigger moves can be difficult for dogs. So here are some tips on how to move your dog and keep him happy at the same time.
The most important thing when you are moving with your pet is to keep their routine similar. So if you feed them at a specific time of the day, you want to keep that the same. If there is a specific walk you do with him at the afternoon time, keep that the same too. If you feel like you are not going to able to do that then it may would be better that the dog stays in the fence or going to doggy camp to avoid any to the major trauma. Always make sure that your dog is up to date with the shots and vaccinations before you move. If necessary, you might want to do a whole medical check with the vet who knows your dog and also they know about in the area that you are moving too as well. Anything that your dog normally take, medication or a toy that he plays with, foods that he really, really prefer, so make sure you take that all with you and that you have an ample supply of that for maybe a good a month so that while you are settling in the new location, he has got everything that he needs and relates to a completely new environment.
Make sure you avoid extreme temperature. If you are going by car then leave it in the car. If it's very, very hot, if it is hot, keep the windows open. If it's very cold, don't leave it for too extended period of time. Just make sure it's a nice temperature that you would want to be out. If you are traveling by plane, you definitely want to consider minimal stops. Make sure that the airline knows that you are traveling with the pet, they might provide some services to make it easier for the animal and make it more comfortable.
So those were some tips for moving with your pet. Again, I hope you found it helpful and Bon Voyage.
