In my dream, shadows followed me everywhere. Light and dark colors, mixing, fading together and then a mysterious voice whispered, ombré, ombré, ombré. From the French shaded, the look is all about tons of color that shade into each other gradually and like to dye it.
It's in fact you can master in your own homes, you crafty geniuses. It's all coming clear to me, every step of the project. I will do a cotton hoodie and a cotton T-shirt to match. I am in a Seafoam Green mood, so I've mixed Teal and Kelly Green Wet to get my own special shade.
For ombré dyeing, I need two stains; one dark and the other light. Then I take the dark and light dye solutions and blend them separately each with two gallons of hot tap water. I'd stir it well, because that's how Edie roles. I drench the entire hoodie in warm water and wring it out. When the fabric is wet, it absorbs dye better.
Next, I drape it over a hanger upside down, tying the sleeves around the top. I dip the top third of the hoodie in the dark dye bath for 6-8 minutes, gently swishing it back and forth for even coverage. When time's up, I had squeezed out the excess dye.
Now I'd have the beginnings of the dark section. Next, I took the hoodie off the hanger and immersed the entire thing in the light dye. Stir for just a minute to finish the look. Removing the hoodie, I'd rinse it under warm running water, holding the lightest part at the top, so excess dye flows down towards the darker area and Presto! Dyeing complete!
As always, I'd rinse it in cool water until it rinse cleared. Wash it, dry it and wear it. Try guys! Then show some ambition. Use the same dye baths to dye a matching tank top, for a nice contrast when it peaks out from under the hoodie. This is fabulous! What didn't I think this ombré project before? Maybe I can chop all these footage together to make a Fashion Factory episode. What do you think?
