Audra: All right, it's time to get organized while you're in spring cleaning mode. Go get your purse while you're at it. Pamela Beckerman is here. She’s the bag expert and founder of badtrends.com. Pam’s got some great gadgets and ideas to help keep your purse neat, organized and in tip top shape because we spend a lot of money on the purse.
Pamela: WE spent a lot of money and they are our investments so you definitely first and foremost absolutely want to keep it clean. Because there have been plenty of studies that show how many germs a handbag actually collects. You don’t need even want to know everything from fungi to e coli.
Audra: Yeah, it's pretty nasty if you think about it.
Pamela: So it's pretty nasty.
Audra: As you put them in the floor, women put it in the bathroom floor and then you pick it up and put it on your counter.
Pamela: It's disgusting. My favorite thing is a purse hanger. This one is called the clipper and it's really easy because it always actually—here, we will demonstrate. It actually always stays on your hand bag and then when you need it, you hang it from the table, from the chair, from whatever is necessary.
Audra: is this sturdy enough though at the handle? Because I'm telling you—
Pamela: Absolutely, it holds up to 45 pounds. There is actually a great picture on the website. The founders put their child in the bag and weighted it.
Audra: I as going to say because I—let them carry a body in my bag.
Pamela: Exactly, it can actually hold the body and it doubles as a fabulous—
Audra: Only you would think of a double meaning for this.
Pamela: Well you know, multitasking, so definitely you want to do the clipper. And then the other thing is you have a great handbag but you got it damaged. So you have to take care of it because it is an investment piece and I recommend hallac cleaners. They’re based in New York and New Jersey. They do amazing things. They’re not only trusted by me but they’re used by Gucci, Boutique Venatta, YSL, all the top brands use them and you could ship your merchandise to them. I recently fixed a handbag, cost $600.00. It cost me $100.00 to fix it but without that $100.00 investment, it would have been a loss because it was so massive. They are amazing.
Audra: Well let’s talk about keeping the bags organized too because there are so much stuff that you put in your bag. You spend time looking for it. So you have a couple of different gadgets here.
Pamela: Absolutely. If the inside of your handbag is not organized, your mind is not organized. You know what that is. So, if you open up a woman’s handbag, it's like the never ending abyss of—and all sorts of gadgets. I recommend a purse organizer.
Audra: You just pick this up. Put it in your purse.
Pamela: This is literally from my bag. I mean blackberry, pencils, pen, paper, everything fits inside. This is called the cherry handbag organizer. Retails from $15.00 to $30.00 depending on size and I love it. Another option, a little bit more fashionable in terms of colors and you can also actually use it as a wallet, this is called the pouchie. They also retail under $30.00. Everything in your bag should have a home and this is the best way to do it.
Audra: Okay now this, I like because we got to pull this out here. It's not something you're going to wear. This is for the bag.
Pamela: This is not something that you're going to wear.
Audra: This one inside.
Pamela: Yeah, we have one. This is called—
Audra: What’s this for?
Pamela: This is to keep your handbags organized when you're actually at home, in your closet. So this is called the pursendipity. It's made from soy technology so it's eco. It takes the form of any handbag you might need. You just put it in. when you store a handbag, instead of putting in tissue paper, you put this in so that way it's easier to take in and take out. And what I always like to say is when you store in a handbag, it gets wrinkled. So this is like permanent botox for your handbag because it's never going to get wrinkles.
Audra: I need botox for my closet too and my husband’s right now. I need another closet to store all of them.
Pamela: Exactly.
Audra: Just before we go, very, very quickly. Storing your bag and—
Pamela: Okay so this is called Mia Coutone and this is actually their luxury option. It has an anti-dust lining. It retails for under $60.00 depending on size, $40.00 to $60.00. I love it because you know you really want to take care of your handbags and this is the best way to do it. Also, they come in a ton of color options so you can color coordinate it. Evening bags in black—exactly, vey organized and on the go.
Audra: Thank you so much Pam. Good to have you back.
