Sooner or later everybody feels fear at work for some reason. I want to tell you about the time where I had failed to make progress on a project. I had to go to my boss, his name was Tom, and the bad thing about that is that he got incredibly angry. I mean he could fire you right on the spot and I had to go give him bad news. And I was preparing the terror just swept over me. And from wherever it comes from, this verse from the Bible is perfect love casts out fear.
Well, I was ready to try anything that might work. So I thought to myself, “Okay, I am going go in there tell Tom what I have got to tell him, but I am going to love while I am doing this. I will just playing my head, love tom, love tom, love tom, so now I am in the room, what do you want? And I said, “Well I want to tell you this problem that I’ve got. Well yeah before we begin that, I’ve got this other problem.” He told me what the problem was, I said how about if you try this. He became vividly angry, and so all I could think of was, love tom, love tom, so I just simply repeated the words again he goes, “Oh, got it, okay so that is wonderful thank you. What is your problem?” I told him what a terrible mess I had made and what I was doing about it. He said, “You know what, you will figure it out.”
Be sure to do something nice for him, his VP of HR was in there. Do something nice for him. This is great, goodbye. Why was that so different? Because I cared more about Tom, just loving Tom, than I did about myself and my screw up, and that just changed the dynamics and how it is you can cast out fear by simply loving the other person, even if it is the one causing fear.
