I have a mild form of social anxiety. This appears to be the best web-site that I have found for help on the matter: http://www. helpguide.org/mental /social_anxiety_supp ort_symptom_causes_t reatment.htm . Check it out.

Excellent video. Lots of good information. I also came across this other social anxiety resource the other day that gives you a short guide on how you may be able to get over some of your anxieties all on your own. Thought I would share it with some of the people here who may be suffering from social phobia or other socially-related limitations -> http://www.theemotio nmachine.com/?p=1113

Well my social anxiety is not as bad as some people here. But the mild case i suffer from (afraid of people i don't know, 1 on 1 conversations with new people, the opposite sex) makes me to people with SA. We feel like we're stuck in this prison while the world outside is spinning. I think this video's advice was pretty good, i.e get balls and get out there even if you lose face. But a bit insensitive to people who suffer from severe cases of SA. Even for a mild sufferer like where i physically shake in certain social situations, it is a debilitating condition that really lowers your quality of life.

If shyness is really interfering with your life and preventing you from functioning in everyday situations, then you may have social anxiety, and it may help to talk about it to an experienced expert such as a psychiatrist who can treat it. This video seems to be addressed towards people who feel shy from time to time in specific situations.

I too have shyness and social anxiety, i've experienced these problems for most of my life. I've tried psychotherapy, cbt, confidence building groups and anxiey workshops. I think the video does make some good points and has some understanding. If you want to become better at something what do you do? You practice and practice over and over. This is the point the video is not saying it is easy, far from it, but with practice it becomes easier. Or at least that's the theory.

Behavioural therapy alone does not work with anxiety disorders. It can actually make things worse. A very poor video indeed from someone who clearly does not understand social anxiey at all.
