Hi, my name is Tim MacWelch of Earth Connection School of Wilderness Survival and Ancient Skills. In our series how to survive in the outdoors we’re now going to show you want to put in survival kit. A survival kit could be something as simple as one tool. For example a Swish army knife, a warehouse of different tools in one package.
Survival kits could be much more elaborate like a package that you could purchase including a garbage bag which could be used as an improvise garment or an improvise shelter. I also have first aid items in here, a spool of dental floss which is extremely strong thread that I could use for tying up anything from shelters to fishing line.
Other things you may want to include in the survival kit would be items for signaling for help. Other types of signals could be the smoke from your fire. Other things to consider for your survival kit include garments and shelter equipment. A small jacket like this that packs down into a little bag could be an important part of your survival kit. If the weather turned cold or wet a waterproof jacket like this could mean the difference between living and dying. And if the jacket like this was not warm enough we could always use extra materials to make more insulation.
We could wear this jacket and cram it full of dead dry leaves, pine needles, grasses, moss, ferns whatever we had and create a more insulated garment by filling this and making yourself look like a scarecrow. You always want to have at least two different ways to make a fire preferably matches and the lighter. So these are some ideas about how to survive in the outdoors. Priorities including shelter, water, fire and food, we hope you remember to take at least two different ways to make fire on every outdoor trip every time. Take some survival kit goodies too.
Now we hope to see you in the great outdoors, thanks.
