You can find inspiration anywhere. This room was inspired by a man's tie. If you like the look of stripes suggest of your space, I'll show you a few simple secret. All you need is tape, paint and a little bit of patience.
I want to give this denim or masculine look, so these pink walls have got to go. I'm going to incorporate a horizontal stripe, because that's one way to make it feel bigger. If you can't decide which way to make your stripes, keep this in mind. Horizontal stripes make your room feel wider and vertical stripes to make your room feel taller.
As with any paint project, preparation is the key. Start by cleaning of your walls and then taping off all of your trims. Use a high tack tape, if you have a glassy trim and low tack tape if you've recently painted.
The easy part is painting your base code, cut in the perimeter of your room with the brush, then roll out the rest. I'm covering the whole room with olive green to give it a richer feel. Consider buying a self priming paint, it'll cover even a dark color in almost one coat.
To make the stripe, you are going to need a tape measure, a pencil, a level and some painter's tape. Start by measuring out the width of your stripe, I am going for a wider stripe. But you can do any thickness you like, marking side of your stripe. I like to do multiple markings along my wall and then I take my laser level to line them all that up.
Now it's time to mark off, the lines with the tape. Make sure you use low tack painter's tape, to mark out the edges of your stripe. Be sure to press on all of the edges of your tape that way paint won't bleed under.
You could use contrasting color for your stripe or you could keep it tonal if you want a calming feel. I am using the white as my main stripe color, but then I'm going to come back in and put red racing stripe.
When your paints dry, you can pull up the tap and get ready for the next step. Don't worry about any touch-ups you need to do, you can do those at the very end. For my pattern, I am doing two thinner red stripes inside of my larger stripe. But remember, you can't mess it up, and the sky is the limit. Have fun with it.
Red and green are complementary colors, but when you're doing certain shades of red, remember some are brighter than other. I have chosen a flat latex wall paint, but for extra drama you could paint your stripes in a high gloss.
Painting stripes is one of the most popular ways, to use paint creatively in this space. With a little investment of time and money, you can get great results like this.
