Does this wall look familiar? Or you may have a wall paneled wall of any color, but in this it is a dark brown walnut, really does not tie in with the decor this room any longer at all.
What do I do with it? Well, I suggest you paint it. Paint the paneling that is. Do not take the paneling up, because who want s all the repairs back in behind.
You could have glue on the dry wall. you could have nail hose in the dry wall. I suggest just paint it, and the grouse, leave them as they are because the grouse once the wall is painted it gives you a beautiful highlight on the wall.
Let me show you. now, I have the paint all ready to go, let me explain to you what I am going to use, I am going to use a low order fast dry etude primer and in this case it is white. The reason why I am using white, because the finish color that we are going to put over top is latex eggshell enamel and that is going to be the finish color, which is a fairly light toupee color.
So, therefore the whiter the primer the better the coverage on the dark wall, now, I am going to start it by masking along the baseboard, the top of the baseboard because the baseboard is going to remain the same color as the floor.
Now, we are all ready to cut in. now, I will start out by doing all my cuttings along the baseboard, up against the masking tape. Now, you notice that I am going across the paneling, the paint is not picking up in the grouse. We will do the grouse afterwards to make sure that there is a good full coat.
Now, taking a plastic dry wall spackling though if you get it in behind the brick and then pulling it forward bending the spackling and then tuck the paintbrush back in behind allowing the primer to get in back of the point line of the brick.
Now, I am using a medium nub roller to apply on the wood paneling in this case. The reason for that, the grouse as well as there is an imposed graining on the wall paneling. So, we want to fill that with paint in order to give us a nice even finish.
Now, we have allowed at least four hours of drying for the fast drying primer and now we are ready to roll on the latex enamel. Now, does that not look great after a couple of coats? Look at those grouse, the way they highlight the wall.
In fact new light fixture tying in to a nice bright room, why would you want to take paneling off? Why not just paint? I think it looks great.
