Decorating the front room, all the walls. Hey! What about the fire place? Want to change the color of that? Well, you can do it. Even though it is a stone, you can paint it and that is what we are going to do.
Now, first of all there is a few things that you should know about stone. First of all it is very porosity. So, therefore to paint it you want to make sure that it is well clean. Secondly, that it should be a little bit dump. Now, how would you do that? Very simply use a water sprayer, a garden sprayer and wet it down.
Now, starting at the bottom as you can see over here I have already started. I always like to pain the border lines first using a brush. We are using an aqua pearl product here which is acrylic latex and using a polyester brush, paint all the border lines, use a very heavy nap roller.
Normally, at the building supply store they will sell this roller for applying paint to stack all walls because of the porosity of the stack-wall and you want to be able to get down into all the little crevices of the stone putting a nice coat.
Two hours later, look what we got, a beautiful finish stone fire place. Yes, painted, painted with an acrylic latex, stack-old paint and that is available to your local building supply store and paint stores and hardware stores as well.
Some of the tips will make certain that you paint a good heavy coat on the joints first, that is on the mortar joints and then two good coats with a heavy nap roller over the face of the stone giving you that beautiful texture. And in this case, we used an egg shell which gives it just a nice lustier, making it look not too bright but giving this a nice appearance.
Now, we can install a metal if we like, to put family portraits and also other decorating around the fire place. These pictures here will look very nice I think, do you not?
