Kathleen Lisson: Hi, I am Cathleen and thank you for watching my video. I am pairing Gewurztraminer with the Chinese take out food. Last night I went to Amazing Wok, which is the Chinese food take out on Lark Street Albany and grabbed huge Chinese dinner. I got Hot and Spicy Shrimp, Shrimp Lo Mein and Sweet and Sour Shrimp, end meal also came with an egg roll. I tried to match the sweetness in the shrimp with this aromatic white wine called Gewurztraminer. This Gewurztraminer is from Dr. Frank's Vinifera Wine Cellars in Hammondsport on Keuka Lake in the Finger Lakes part of New York. It's a 2006 vintage and it has 12% alcohol. Many people say that Gewurztraminer smells like lychee, which is a Chinese fruit. So maybe it's appropriate to pair it with Chinese food. The grape though is originally from Tramin in Italy and Gewurz is the word that mean spicy, so Gewurztraminer means spicy wine from Traminer. I enjoy this wine with the spicy sweetness of the hot and spicy shrimp. The recipe, it seems to involve carrots and peas, as well as onions cut off all in a spicy sauce with shrimp. I also thought it complemented the sweet and sour shrimp with those very sweet sauce on it as well as it really came alive with the shrimp and the shrimp lomain. However, it didn't complement at all the cavity taste of the egg roll. So I kind of left it along, when I was eating the egg roll. I also enjoyed it with the Fortune Cookies that I had left. I kind of do buy the Fortune Cookies and takes with the wine. I find that Fortune Cookies have a little bit of an orangy taste in them. So I really appreciate that match with the Gewurztraminer. I thought that a glass of wine would really class up my Chinese dinner, and I think it did. So please try Gewurztraminer, the next time you get Chinese Take Out, and thank you for watching my video.
