Hi my name is Sasha Korea and I have been coaching cheerleading for over 10 years and
I’m here today teaching you how to be a cheerleader. Let’s go over some basic cheer
motions and how to do it with proper technique. So first we’re going to learn a High “V”.
I just want you to stand with your feet together, hands at your side. You’re going to lift
both arms up like this and that’s a High V. You want to make sure your hands are in a fist
position and when you do the fist you want to make sure that it’s a tight fist with your
thumbs wrapping around the outside. You want to make sure that your thumbs aren’t like
this and their wrapped around here so that’s the High V.
From the High V you can just bring it right down here like this to a Low V and that’s
called the Low V positions same thing but just lower. So let’s try it we’re going to hit the
High V on the count of one, so I’m going to count 5, 6, 7, 8 and you’re going to hit the
High V on 5, 6, 7, 8, 1 and then now let’s try the Low V same thing on the count of one
5, 6, 7, 8,1. Another variation is you could go from the High V to the low V so let’s try
that. 5, 6, 7, 8 and when your going to hit your High V on two your going to hit your Low
V. Ready let’s try it 5, 6, 7, 8, 1, 2.
Let’s go over a few other motions, another motion is the K and this one your going to
hold your and the fist again and your arms is going to be across your body straight and
knocked out. Your other arm is going to be up here in a High V position. That’s called a
K. You can also do it on the other side like this so let’s try hitting this side doing K on the
count of 1.5, 6, 7, 8, hit 1. So that’s the K motion. We also have what’s called a gold post
in this position your arms are both straight left out right by your ears, next to your ears
and your hands are in a fist position and their facing each other and you want to make
sure your arms are nice and tight and locked out.
Let’s try that on the count of 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, hit 1 so it’s the gold pose from there we can
also hit a box position all you do is you bring your elbows. You bend your elbows down
to here. You want to make sure your elbows are in line with your shoulders a straight line
here and that’s called the box position so let’s try hitting that on 1, 5, 6, 7, 8 hit 1. And if
you notice in between motions my arms are nice and tight at my sides and also you want
to make sure that your thumbs are in, not out like this when you start. So thumbs in hands
in a blade. This is what’s called a blade position, really squeezing tight on your sides
before you do your motions.
These are just a few of the basic cheer motions, but hopefully this will give you a good
start with your motions and your technique. Next we’re going to go over some cheer
jumps.
