Hi, and welcome to Football Done Right, an interactive coaching website done for coaches by coaches. My name is Coach Master, and in today's lesson, we are going to be talking about a technique called push/pull. Push/pull is used on an offensive alignment to regain control of your gap responsibility and overtake a block, ultimately ripping off the block and redirecting to the football.
Today, player 1 and player 2 are going to demonstrate proper technique used in pushing and pulling. In a push/pull, we want to push with our play-side hand and pull with our offhand. Player 1 is positioned on the bag, hands balanced. Player 2 is the offensive man. At this snap, player 2 is going to step to his left; player 1 is going to push with his right hand and pull with his left hand, ultimately twisting the bag, flattening out the offensive man's pads, and overtaking the gap responsibility.
In this snap, my goal player has stepped. Players ready, set, go, and rip. Come back, let's slow down a little bit. So again, player 1 starts with his hands positioned on the blocker bag, at the goal, they are going to walk through. Player 1 is going to push with his right hand, pull with his left hand, flattening the pads of the offensive player, ultimately decreasing the offensive player's surface area, overtaking the gap responsibility, ripping off, and redirecting to the block area. So my goal players walk through. Set, go. Again, pushing with his right hand, pulling with his left hand, twisting the bag, ripping off the block.
The players have reset. Now, player 1 will step to his left, player 2 will step to his right. My goal player 1 will walk through, pushing with his left hand, pulling with right hand, decreasing the blocking surface area, ripping through, redirecting to the football. Walk through on my go; set, go. Pushing with his left hand, pulling with his right hand, ripping off, overtaking the gap, and redirecting to the football.
Now at full speed. Player 2 will step to his left, player 1 will push with his right hand, pull with his left hand. Again, decreasing his blocking surface area, and flattening out the pads of the offensive man in front of him, overtaking his gap responsibility, ripping off the block, and redirecting to the football. At full speed on my go. Set, go. Twist, twist, twist, good.
Player 1 will reset, go to his left. Pushing with his left hand, pulling with his right hand. Player 2 will step to his right. On my go. Full speed. Set, go. Rip, excellent.
