This is Epic and this is a tutorial for the butterfly kick, not the butterfly twist but the butterfly kick. I will demonstrate one, real simple.
[Demonstration]
Just like that. A lot of people learn it in Wushu. Now some people do it from a stand like I just did, down and up. Some people will start from a stand, they’re going to do like this and out. Other people, do a couple of steps and throw them out. I’m going to show you how to do it from a stand because the momentum steps are really confusing to actually explain. Really all they are, just take your turn until you’re ready to go on foot.
So the key to the butterfly kick, if you want to get height, don’t lift up your shoulders. When you lift up your shoulders, you’ll make it like this, like that. Now you tend to lift up your upper body more than your back.
The kick is where you’re flat and parallel to the ground. So what you want to do is you’re going down, you want to set here. Don’t face that way or sideways that you’re going to go. You face the opposite side since you’re going to go to that way. Put your arms here for momentum.
[Demonstration]
Now as you swing your arms here, you go this way. That’s pushing up this leg while swinging this leg up. So you go up, put this leg up as high as you can. Don’t do anything with the shoulders, just follow your arms and pull yourself out that way for momentum. As you go down, with this leg push off the other leg. And when you’re ready, this is when you go up in the air—just one, two, like that.
[Demonstration]
You kind of kick yourself on the back of the head. A lot of people when they try it, they’ll be like up here and then now on the back. You don’t do that. You're throwing your leg up behind you, not from the side and not in front of you. You go here, lift up your leg, drop off your leg, swing your legs to land for that.
[Demonstration]
That’s the tutorial for the butterfly kick. Good luck!
