This is a tutorial for the sideflip off the wall. There are a couple of ways people do this. Here is how I do it.
Most people will actually right at the wall place the inside foot and come off on whatever, but I’m going to show you how to do it by placing your outside foot on the wall, so I will demonstrate one.
[Demonstration]
Okay, having this side foot down helps a lot. What I do, I run at like in an angle, kind of like you’re going to do a palm spin or whatever. It’s kind of the same move, too. At the palm spin, you turn this shoulder way over, same thing at the push off the wall. See you will run, come up of your inside foot, turn that just a little bit. You want to turn just enough so you can plant this foot anywhere where it’s comfortable. Don’t push off to the side. If you push off to the side, you might hit your head. You want to push up at an angle or up and out. So to walk through it, you can go here, you come here and then something like that. That’s how some people warm to it. But make sure that you hit the side really well. If you can slide off like here like that and be able to control it better, then you can do it off the wall because that’s all it is. Anything that has to do with the flip off the wall is just like doing it on the ground. You're just using the wall’s help. I will do it again.
[Demonstration]
Okay, one more time, I will slow this down so you guys see the detail.
[Demonstration]
Control, a lot of people would have freeze when they’re about—I guess when they’re starting to come down and they’ll fall. A way to stop that is really learn to control your tuck. So you walk through it, you come up, tilt your shoulders this way, and then just bring your legs to you. Don’t bring your upper body to your legs. Bring your legs and your knees to your chest. Tuck however you feel. I tuck like this because it’s more comfortable, so shoulders, tuck, and they’ll help you rotate. Be careful with looking dead ahead. If you look dead ahead, the world spins. And some people, they can control it. Some people, it freaks them out a little bit.
So focus on as you come over, look for the ground, spot it, and then land. Now don’t land hard. If you land flat-footed, you could risk putting a lot of pressure on your ankles that they don’t need. You could risk hurting your heel or the ball of your feet, whatever. Try and come down on the balls of your feet but pushing it. Some people can land like that. It’s not as bad as long as you can control. If you know it’s not going to hurt anything, go ahead and go for it.
If you're having problems with the landing too low to the ground, like if you keep falling like here on your side, get height. Either that or you have a slow tuck. Learn to control it. To get a faster tuck, if you're at the gym or if you’re practicing off a ledge on to some grass or soft like gravel, work on jumping off and then tucking tight. The faster tuck motion is, the better, so you do it like that. So when I tuck, I will do it again, you will see. I come off, tuck tight here, and I control the landing.
[Demonstration]
Well, that was a little sketchy, but it’s all the same move really. Just come here at the wall at an angle, outside foot, come up, step, push up and off, tilt your body to the side, tuck tight, and just come out. I will do one last one for you guys.
[Demonstration]
And that’s the tutorial for the sidefilp off the wall. That was mainly for Jasper and Adam.
