Hi, I’m Dina Prioste and welcome to “Get Exercised”. There used to be an old Saturday night life skit called “Bad Idea Jeans”. It was back in the Phil Hartman, Mike Myers days.
Eventually it’s kind of wimpy white guys sitting around talking about blatantly, a very bad ideas while they are getting ready to play a basketball game against some very tall athletic black guys. It’s not a good idea. Ever since I’ve seen that whenever I know something is instinctively wrong in my mind I think about that, that idea of jeans, so keep that on mind.
Today, we’re going to be working on some steps to come in to forearms stand to practice which is my most requested pose but just know that the pose itself is not the end of ordeal. No one to stop to say, “You’re not committing any bad idea, yoga jeans.”
Forearm stand is about bent and upper back and shoulders where our back is naturally want to rub floor. It has to open up this way which is what makes forearm stand so challenging.
For the first step which we’re going to focus on, the chest opening and upper body straightening. Take a yoga block up against the wall and its long side. You’re going to bring your hands into L shaped, on either side of the block. So, this is going to prevent your hands from going in and your elbows from going wide.
So, keeping the hands and the elbows in line with your shoulders forearms on the floor, look at the block and come up like you’re coming to a downward dog. Keep looking forward pressing your forearms into the floor and tiptoe your feet closer to your face, as closer so you can get them with keeping the legs straight. Focus on opening your chest up. Yeah, I think I’m going to take out all of my retirement and invest them in some stocks.
The next step is to practice kicking up, so once you’ve got your feet as close as you can get them, take one leg up come up on to the toes of the other foot and just lightly start to hack, so focus on engaging your core strength and letting your landings be light on the other foot and of course, practice with the other leg.
I’m quitting my job on Monday morning. I don’t care. I’m not giving them notice. Up yours Jenkins maybe at this point you want to kick up to the wall. Focus on pressing the forearms down, breath, open the chest, and keep looking forward. The trick here is to trying out to crushing the low back. Keep lengthening the spine and open the chest as you bring the feet away from the wall.
I’ve been seeing someone for a month then working and claim each other on Facebook. It just feels so right. That was just a few things that you can work on to start to coming to forum stand practice and a good idea of yoga way.
Next week, I’ll be demonstrating this pose. I can’t wait. Thanks for watching, I’m Dina Prioste and you have just been exercised.
