Male Speaker: So, if we know that the person is choking on something, what is exactly that we have to do?
Female Speaker: Alright, so first of all when someone is choking, they're going to be coughing a lot, and that's a good thing. So, if the person is already coughing, we're actually going to encourage them to continue coughing. That's the best way to get an object out. If that's not working, and the object becomes completely blocked in their throat, and there is no more air exchange, so there is no more coughing, there is no more anything, then what we would do is the Heimlich Maneuver, and it's very easy to do.
So what you're going to do is, you're going to tell the person that you are going to come behind them, and I'll just undress, you wouldn't normally do that, but just to show you where to put your hands. You are actually going to find the belly buttons just down below here, and you are going to put your hands around, right around where the belly button is. You are going to tuck one hand in, and bring yourself around and you're actually going to push your hands in and pull up at the same time and do a J Thrust and you're actually going to be pushing pretty very hard.
So, you are going to probably be lifting up the person, just a little bit, and you're going to continue doing that until the object comes out, or until they fall unconscious.
Male Speaker: Okay, then what happens if the person falls unconscious?
Female Speaker: If the person falls unconscious, you are going to call 911 immediately, very important, and you'll start the step to CPR.
Male Speaker: Okay, Perfect! Thanks!
